Dd has got to do the last part of a group food tec project during the Easter holidays. She has tried to get in touch with the other two numerous times over the past week and a half try to arrange to meet but no reply. Should she:-

a. Do her bit herself and sod the other two
b. Keep trying to get in touch
c. Wait til they go back to school and try and do it then with the other two.

Or d. Some other solution i haven't thought of that doesn't involve me yelling at the teacher that group work for food tec is a stupid idea!!!

a but continue with b (& get proof that she tried - eg texts, emails)

savoycabbage · 11/04/2010 10:31

Yes, a. as much as she can on her own and b.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 11/04/2010 10:32

I found myself in similar situations doing DT stuff in yrs 10 and 11. As it counted towards my GCSE final result (being coursework) I did my part and gathered evidence as Katymac says, to prove I did try.

gorionine · 11/04/2010 10:33

A and B as KatyMac says.

I also happen to think it is silly to give group work (whatever subject) during a holiday as people will find it very hard to have a timetable that suits all.

Goblinchild · 11/04/2010 10:34

She should do as much as she can herself, whilst trying to get in contact with the others.
When she gets back to school, if she already has a lot done and worked out, then the combining of efforts will be easier than them all starting from scratch.
If it turns out that she has done most of the work, then she should write a note to the teacher, setting out clearly which bits are hers. It might be that the teacher didn't have a choice and that collaborative independent work was part of the curriculum requirements.
Agree, it's a stupid idea to do it out of school hours.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/04/2010 10:37

This is why you arrange when they're going to do it before the Easter holidays - dd has a wee girl coming next week to build a castle all day.

A plus B. And from bitter experience of year 7's make sure you check the telephone numbers.

gorionine · 11/04/2010 10:48

Yes LauriefairyCake, in an ideal situation you would arrange things before the holiday but what happens if the family of one of the group decide to go away for the entire break?

Goingspare · 11/04/2010 11:01

A - sounds as if she's tried B enough already. How irritating.

seeker · 11/04/2010 11:11

What's really off-pissing is these two are supposedly friends of hers. If they were just 2 other random year 9s it wouldn't be so bad!

Troube is that she can't really just do her bit - it's all or nothing.
