Hi maverick,
I've been told you're the person to ask about phonics. I'm hoping you'll be able to help me.
I'm the Learning Support Teacher in an Independent Grammar school. I'm new to this type of role. I'm trying to find a phonics scheme that would be appropriate for the children I teach. Although they are Dyslexic, they have obviously learnt to read and write well enough to pass the entrance exam. In another context these children might not be considered to have significant literacy difficulties. The previous encumbent used Phonographix. I'm tempted to discount this as it seems to be pitched too low.
I'm also thinking about whether it would be more appropriate for pupils of this age and ability to follow a more general programme that includes study skills etc?

Thanks for taking the time to read. Look forwardto hearing back.

Hi Puffling,
I suggest you read my page on Teenage 'dyslexics' -I suspect that your students fall into the catagory described in the first paragraph:

www.aowm73.dsl.pipex.com/dyslexics/teenage_dyslexics.htm

Then go to the 'programmes' resources page:
www.aowm73.dsl.pipex.com/dyslexics/resources_and_further_10.htm
Look at those marked with a pink and black X

Also, see the Talisman books here:
Talisman series. 10 books for older readers age 8-14 / Reading Age KS1. phonicbooks.co.uk/talisman.htm

Have you thought about training, yourself? -the Sound Reading System is suitable for all ages and training takes just 5 days:

Any more questions then do email me -address on my website front page.
