Teachers all say DS is very hard working, enthusiastic, asks questions others do not think of & is a pleasure to teach... except about half of them also said that he is a worrier & needs a lot of reassurance. He likes to ask whether something is right before he does it. Teachers say he needs more confidence in himself & just to do it. Any tips on helping him with this apart from telling him that it's not the end of the world to get something wrong & he would probably be right anyway.

I was like your DS growing up. In the end, whenever I checked I was right/ seeking approval etc. my parents/ family would say "what do you think". I would say "I don't know" and they would say "tell me what you think. ... do YOU think that's right?" It was great for me trusting my own instincts, taught me I was often right and that it was ok, normal in fact, to sometimes be wrong. It all took a long time and even now when I'm self-doubting, I can hear my mum saying "what do YOU think?" (can be really annoying but it works!!!)

And also to show your DC that you think they are likely to be right (you're a clever boy, what do you think?) that siort of thing. Sorry - typing whilst DS2 on lap!")
