Year 11 parents' evening is soon and just occurred to me it might be my last one or am I expected to attend them in sixth form?

Well my DD's school has them, the year 12 one was just before Christmas.

Yes, of course they do.

I just thought they might not as part of the independent ethos. Don't imagine they have them at FE colleges.

I'm beginning to get bored with them .

Yes, they still have them in our equivalent of yr 12 and 13 - since your DC is still at home, there is still an assumption that you have an interest in their education, and can support them to some extent.

They are important in the sixth form as you gear up for UCAS and getting the required grades for university. There can be quite a lot of tactics required in sixth form to land the right course.

My PFB is coming to the end of his sixth form, and we have had several parents' evenings. The first was a getting-to-know you social/expectations evening, with free flowing wine and appetisers. We have had the usual academic progress evenings, and also presentations on Higher Education and the UCAS process.

It can be a very frustrating time for a parent, especially with a child like mine - immensely laid back. He barely communicates, and doesn't share things like fab offers from top universities. If I didn't get snippets of reassurance from the school, I would be totally demented.

I am right behind her really, it wasn't long ago we had the sixth form open evening so I'm not that interested in this one. Sixth form will be more challenging so I expect then they will be important to attend.

sixth form open evenings are not as difficult as year 11 ones - only three or four teachers to see instead of the ten or eleven you see in the main part of the school,

also it should be a three way discussion with DC contributing to the meeting

We have them still at the FE college I teach at. Not as frequently as schools, but I'm afraid they're still there!
