I think they are expected to make 2 sub levels of progress each academic year - soes that help?

niamhanddanismum · 27/01/2010 20:43

Does it make sense to say about halfway between where they were and the target!
Tbh I wouldn't pay that much attention to targets. If you are worried she needsd extra help, contact the school and ask them to do a round robin of all teachers. This is more likely to give you the information you need to make an informed decision.

Is a sub level from say 4b to 4a?

I don't know really where she was

They have refused to give her catch up work except in Music (given her a GCSE work book - which she is plodding through - as no-one else is doing the same stuff & it's different to class work) & she is already 5a target is 5c

She is a letter behind target in maths, science & IT - so I guess that means she will be on target for the year

Bit worried about the others tho'

That does help actually - I will chat to GP/asthma nurse; thanks

Can you tell I am cross about the music thing?

I teach secondary English -I'd be happy with one sub-level off at this point.

Don't worry too much about levels - how rigorously they're being assessed in the first place is, ahem, often slightly moot, depending on subject & assessment procedures.

Ask for a round robin, definitely. I get these often & fill them in with something more meaningful than a raw level - classwork & homework progress, attitude, effort, any weak areas which parents could be on the lookout for in HW...

So 3 4 & 5 are a bit concerning

It's hard to get a clear picture when she is 'failing' art & PE

I get the distinct impression languages aren't 'her' thing

History is a bit worrying tho'

English (thankfully as I consider it very important) she has already met the target (now I just need to worry if it was a reasonable target )

I have been told today that I will still be in trouble with the school because despite DD Keeping up with work, they will now say "well how much better would she have done if she hadn't been off sick"

So now I feel all

Some of the subjects are "new" at secondary school and so there is a lower expectation in the first year. So often the target for English and Maths say would be a level 5/6 because they have been tested on these at primary, whereas for music or history it might only be a level 4.

If a child is missing from school long term through serious health problems the LEA do make some educational provision for them at home.

Katymac · 28/01/2010 18:43

Is there a 'standard' of where they should be at the end of Yr7?

That way I could see if their targets are realistic (maybe) I wonder if they are individual targets or class/set/year ones?

Actually I don't know why I bother - I will be in the wrong whatever I do

If she isn't keeping up it's because she is off to much, if she is imagine how good she would be if her attendance was better

& ow she tells me she is one of 4 (from the year) picked to represent the school in a spelling comp

So she isn't failing at everything
