Anyone else's ds had an interview at Whitgift?

Ds has had his interview - dh went along. My impression is that ds was very borderline on the exam. However, dh said the interview was very brief and, when they went to visit the headmaster, he didn't ask dh or ds a single question!

So I'm guessing this is a bad sign and that ds was just invited along to keep up the numbers. Has anyone else had any experiences they can share?

other alternative is that he was already in and the interview was just a formality? Have known this to be the case at DS' school.

You are very kind, thirtysomething.

It is such a selective school that I can't see why they would take him if his results were borderline but there's nothing I can do now but wait.

it's not that selective, Caoimhe - don't forget they're competing with the Sutton grammars for the really bright pupils

there are plenty of children at W and T who wouldn't pass the 11+ for Wilsons etc

you won't hear anything until late Feb, so there's no point in mulling it over now!

large glass of wine prescribed

Thanks mimsum. Dh made a big play of how it was our first choice, blahdy blah.... so hopefully that will help!!

He has his Trinity interview this week so fingers crossed he did better in that exam.

If I drink much more wine I'll be comatose by the time the results come out.....................

question, why did you not go to the interview? a few years ago, they wanted to interview both dh and i separatly from him. and then together as a family. we had three interviews. one with him on his own.

agree, the school wont bother interviewing if he wasnt worth considering. whitgift dont select purely on academic ability the way the sutton grammars do. its a much more rounded school

Caoimhe · 24/01/2010 09:35

Hi stitch, I didn't go because it clashed with an important date at work - the school wasn't bothered.

Ds was seen on his own, then dh was seen on his own, then they went together to see the headmaster.

My friend also went on her own as her dh couldn't make it - maybe the school is just being more sensitive to the difficulties of both parents taking time off work.

I agree that they don't just look at academic ability (just as well, really ).
