Anyone used a CAF Co-Ordinator?

I've just phoned ACE and they have told me about a relatively new service that involves the use of CAF Co-ordinators. Does anyone know much about the work they do and are they any good?

Is CAF Common Assessment Framework.....or something else?

yes it is Katymac. I ask because my DC doesn't have a school to go to and the only one that is available would not be suitable for him at all.

ACE suggested that involving a CAF Co-ordinator may help as they can do a report and will prove my DC is vulnerable.

All I want is a school place and wonder whether this is a good positive step to take or not as I've never liked agencies to get involved at the best of times as they end up making it all about them and not about the child and as parents we ususally get the blame even though the problem has been caused by the system but I'm willing to consider anything at the moment.

All a CAF co ordinator does is liaise and manage the group of people working with an individual. My experience is Early Years but same sandwich different filling if you know what I mean.

The actual CAF ( Common Assessment Framework ) identifies children and families who have extra / additional needs that are the concern of several agencies. It aims for greater collaboration between agencies to ensure that all have a full understanding of an individual's specific needs and can improve outcomes for them. It does help in accessing services. They really can help in sharing information.

From the group of agencies working with a child, a lead person is identified who will oversee the CAF.

Borough's have a CAF co ordintaor who support schools in this process.

In your situation the CAF would involve all agencies - (including you obviously) who feel that the particular school is not appropriate.

Generally (just finished my training on it & been involved in one) I think they are a good thing for families & children - I am considering one for DD
