Hello everyone

I can't believe that Kangaboy is about to start his GCSE courses ~ year 10

I thought I would start a thread for those who went through the 11+ with me all those years ago ~ blimey where did the time go

He is doing:

ENGLISH
MATHS
FRENCH
BIOLOGY
PHYSICS
CHEMISTRY

and then his choices are:

LATIN
D&T {resistant materials}
DRAMA

He wants to be an actor in the theatre or work in the theatre in some way ie set design or lighting {his D&T project is to design and build a stage set}

How are all yours doing?

Hello everyone, it's great to see some old friendly faces together (and the new ones!) Nic eto know who else is going through the same things.

DS is also still in double train tracks, although teeth are moving fast so should be off soon

Is everyone still doing loads after after school activities?

DS has had to suspend swimming & diving due to his recent fractures, but is starting back with his fab guitar teacher for a one handed lesson next week

janeite · 03/09/2009 18:21

DD (not in grammar btw) is in train tracks too! Still doing the flute and started D of E last year, whilst in Yr 9 - should finish that during Yr 10 and then hopefully go on to Silver. Is hoping for a non-speaking part in the next play, as she prefers dancing to talking she says!

It seems incredible that I was lurking on here all those years ago, when she was still in infants!

dd is also joining RN CCF section this year Celia (our school starts it in year 9) & will get her uniform tomorrow. I'm not sure she's really looking forward to it though as she really wanted to be a conscientious objector but I tested the limits of her conscience by allowing her to have her ears pieced this summer if she gave it a try.

The cadets do get to do lots of stuff: ds (also RN section) has been on a minehunter, flying, a couple of sailing weeks, a canoeing week & a leadership course & some other stuff too I think. If they can stomach being bossed around & drilled it really does give them great opportunities (not sure dd will though).

Hello everyone

Kangaboy is in RAF section of CCF and yes he gets to do flying etc, and shooting in rifle range. My Dad was in RAF about 50 years ago.

I have found out that yes he does do RE as a compulsory extra

My db takes RAF cadets up flying in little grobs sometimes

DD is doing her DofE as an extra curric, she is also continuing with her life guards and as she passed her Bronze Medalion last yr is hoping to get her award of merit this yr. She has just started Rangers, and helps out with a Brownie Troup (volunteer section of DofE). As well as Piano and Guitar.

Have your all had the huge growth spurt yet?

DS is an August birthday, and started Yr 7 as average height, but now his friends look like his Minders

He is also still wearing the same jacket he started the school in!(Was a little large then, but nothing too silly.) TBH, we tried on new ones and he would only go up 1" in chest size, so we will look again in the October half term.

DS was encouraged by the England Cricketer on TV at the weekend who said he grew a foot in a year at age 17!

RTKangaMummy · 09/09/2009 23:09

Kangaboy is now 5'9"

~ I am 5'7" so he is towering over me DH is 6'

We got him new trousers as the last pair he had since year 7 with huge hems

We have now got him 36" inside leg again with huge hems so that they will do him for next 2 years ~ hopefully

I'm still waiting for my DS to have his growth spurt. I recently bought him some new school trousers, inside leg 30" and they still needed taking up a few inches! Bless, he's only about 5' nothing .

Milliways · 13/10/2009 16:09

Have your DC's all done their first piece of Eng Lit coursework yet?

DS is doing "Hard Times".

Docbunches · 14/10/2009 08:30

Hi Milliways - in answer to your question; I'm not sure, but my DS did a long essay on 'the Crucible' which his teacher said was a bit "waffley" - so I hope THAT particular piece isn't being submitted as coursework!!

Milliways · 14/10/2009 16:14

{grin]!

Doesn't sound like it! DS had to hand in a draft for teacher comments and then re-type to submit the final thing. He has also done 1 and is ready for the 2nd Speaking & listening assessment.

hennipenni · 20/10/2009 12:24

Anybodies DCs sorting out work experience yet? DD does hers in January and is busy trying to sort out a placement for herself.

Where does she want to go Henni?

I have no idea when DS does his - he says Yr12! (They go to France for work experience then if they like.)

I think DS would like to work with a friend who is a Barrister for the CPS - see if law is worth a shot. Otherwise Microsoft (local to us) or "with a professional gambler"

hennipenni · 22/10/2009 12:30

Well, she's either going to her music school to gain experience helping to teach the little ones or a reptile centre as she wants to study animal sciences/research (but not in the vivisection way)

DD2 would like to be a barrister because she likes argueing

Milliways · 26/01/2010 16:19

How are the modules going?

DS has a French assessment today (not his strongest subject by far).
