1 : this sort of stuff was tught to most kids in cub scouts before that got unpopular

2 : It gets kids away from ipods, computergames, sitting on their buts and out into the outdoors
You have to walk around outdoors. Taking away the electronic gadgets enables you to teach other things...
3 : It makes science stuff like structure a bit more interesting when say using it to build your own shelter likewise say heat conduction with insulation.
Well if you dont follow the structure and insulation lessons ya freeze and your shelter collapses
4 : It teaches you how to be effecient on a budget and make greater use of whats around you
Making a tent from sticks, bin liners or better still plant material is cheaper then buying a tent. More so putting kids in a situation where they have to put whats around them to use starts them thinking about things in a new way
5 : Gives a greater appreciation of nature and the environment
One getting out will help, also showing how to make use of whats around you and how its limited
6 : It encourages lateral and inventive thinking
You learn to take things apart and use them in ways that were not origonally intended.
ie paper clips as fishhooks, cans as cutting tools, if hot could make a water weel with sicks and cans and attach a fan made of whats around you. Cds as signalling devices, etc
7 : It makes life easier when going to festivals and camping
Kinda helps to know dry wood burns better than green and how to make a safe campfire the easy way
8 : Gets kids away from their estates and city life
Duh obvious one
9 : Gets them less bored without their technology
Theres more to life than playstation. ie rock climbing
10 :_ May actually come in handy one day to keep them alive.
