Taking my PGCE this Sept. already have 5 bits of coursework !!

Could you tell me what you think? Please

What subjects do you think should be compulsory for secondary aged pupils?

What do you think makes a good teacher?

Apart from teaching what else do you think a good teacher should do?

Think back to when you were a pupil at school. Who were your favourite teachers? Which subjects did you enjoy most?

Now think, what was it about those teachers that made them special. For me it's things like they were passionate about their subject and they knew me as an individual and cared about me.

I have just written 1000 words on learning, made me realise that I didn't have a special teacher - being quite normal I was very much overlooked and the genius and naughty children got the attention.

Loved English - still do and economics.

Are there any subjects that you would like to see introduced to the national Curriculum?

I don't think I would want more on the NC tbh. I think there's too much on there already strait-jacketing teachers.

I work in an Academy in a tough area with high levels of deprivation. My son is highly able and very academic. What suits him and what suits some of the students we have at school is very very different, and there needs to be even more flexibility to allow for this.

Personally I would like students doing 'academic' routes to all do a GCSE in MFL.

I think most schools would do well to do more on managing personal finances and sex education still needs to be more relaxed and open in some schools.

I would drop IT from the NC as most students have the IT skills anyway, and IT teaching can be very poor IME. IT is a 'tool' for learning, not an end in itself, and should be used in all/most subjects anyway.
