Proud Mum Alert! I am soooo relieved and pleased for her

She has worked so hard and now doesn't care what her actual results are - she knows she has at least 3 A grades

Hope you all get similar good news.

Cambridge is wonderful. She will love it.

Can you ask her not to be one of those loud freshers in Sainsbury's though, and not spend 50 minutes debating which cereal to buy with 200 fellow students while I try to battle through for a box of cornflakes? Please?

Overmydeadbody · 20/08/2009 21:54

They always choose coco pops or crunchy muisli in the end anyway.

stealthsquiggle · 20/08/2009 21:56

Well done her

I guess she is out celebrating now?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 20/08/2009 21:58

Ahem, the correct shade of blue.

Congratulations!

hatesponge · 20/08/2009 22:05

Many congratulations to your DD!

Do New Hall (sorry, Murray Edwards still make Freshers share those weird mezzanine floor rooms? (Admittedly this is going back 15 years, possibly the accomodation has improved since then! )If so, hope she gets a kindred spirit to share with!

Cambridge is a fantastic place. 'Twas quite possibly the best 3 years of my life [wistful]

senua · 20/08/2009 23:02

Congratulations to Milligirl.

Quattrocento · 20/08/2009 23:07

Yes, well done. You (and she) must be pleased.

Milliways · 21/08/2009 07:43

Thanks so much everyone

Yes, they still have a few split rooms but the whole college is being upgraded to loose the prison feel! She is hoping for a single room.

Yes, she was out in town last night, but has work today so is up already.

We are camping this weekend and leaving her at home with friends.

Going to Cambridge is a fab experience...three/four years of punting, garden parties, balls (Oh, and an awful lot of hard-work!).

I was at Newnham (15 years ago) and it was ace. Hope that you dd enjoys Newhall. (or whatever it is called now). I loved my all girl college after 13 years of mixed schools.

I can get excited on behalf of all Cambridge undergraduates!

TotallyUnheardOf · 22/08/2009 19:51

Milliways... [whispers] 'tis me, Ellbell. Haven't been here for yonks but had to come and see how Milligirl had done. I'm so pleased! What an amazing result. She'll have an amazing time.

Irrelevant fact du jour: my old Head of Department (and PhD supervisor) is in New Hall (or whatever it's called). And he lives in the same town as you and commutes, so she won't be able to escape him...!

OK, can go back into obscurity now...

brimfull · 23/08/2009 01:04

congratulations to your dd milliways-she deserves to have a brilliant time!

Tortington · 23/08/2009 01:34

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes · 23/08/2009 01:37

Well done.

Milliways · 23/08/2009 17:41

Thank you all.

TotallyUnheardof: I wondered where you had got to! Thanks for the info - I'll save that nugget to freak her with later . Hope you have a good intake at your place this Autumn.

Builde - glad to hear the positive comments re the All girls colleges.

Now I will be picking local knowledge for best pub for visiting parents to visit etc etc.

wow, many congrats to both you and her
you must be super proud

GrendelsMum · 02/09/2009 14:17

Congratulations! My sister was at New Hall / Murray Edwards and loved it - and all her friends from there are such nice, well-balanced, interesting people (and all still in touch). Murray Edwards was also very supportive when she ran into difficulties part way through the course.

Milliways · 05/09/2009 14:43

Thank you! It is always nice to hear positive stories of scary new places

DD likes the fact that they don't have a College "Hoody", they have a cardy!

Congratulations. It's lovely here. Expect a lot of eye-rolling when you visit and eulogise over the extreme prettiness of everything.

"Yeah Mum, Kings College Chapel, big building, I walk past it ont he way to lectures. You want to go inside? Why?"

Milliways · 05/09/2009 15:19

Thanks!

I did the Oxford Visit and was blown away by the architecture everywhere.

Am lookimg forward to walking round with huge smug grin [grin[
