My dcs are at Belmont and DS will start at Mill Hill in Sept.
The new head is very impressive - have seen him at various events and he seems to have a really good attitude, lots of energy and common sense. Also friends with DCs at Mill Hill are impressed with the way he got to know the children very quickly and has a hands on approach in encouraging them to meet their individual targets.
One mother I know has a DS at Mill Hill and another at a N London school higher in the league tables, but she thinks that Dr Luckett is by far the better head. CAT me for more info

Hi ConstantlyCooking, did your DS join Belmont at 11+ or was he already at the school?
My DS will be trying for 11+ entry later this year, so any advice is very much appreciated!. DS is very keen on the school (v sporty chap and lurvvved the facilities) and I rather liked the head when I met her. I haven't met the MH head but have also heard good things.
My only concern was the Saturday school as my ds is very sporty and probably be in school teams on Sat pm's - in which case when will I ever see him?!!

Hi, 2009 please PM me for more info re belmont - have just realised I have made myself v easy to identify with other recent posts! However, Belmont is a superb school with excellent pastoral care and high academic standards for those who are able and lots of support for those who are not so able. The children who joined at Y7 have integrated well. We worried about Saturday school but DS was adamant he wanted to go and wouldn't sit elsewhere. Also they have now started having a free weekend in the autumn term + a 2 week half term, and the hols are even longer than Belmont (if you are moving from state - the longer hols will make up for all the Saturdays anyway!)
Good luck

Definite spaces in current yr 3 and I think a space in yr 5 from Sept - def worth ringing the school as class sizes are small so prob scope to inc

ConstantlyCooking · 10/05/2009 22:46

Belmont had entry exams and interviews in Jan for Y7 entry (ie the children sitting were in y6) and has already offered places.
So they may be full at the moment, but it is always worth ringing the school direct.

MK18 - Belmont does take an academic mix - the school is very good at educating the whole child. It is also happy to take children who shine in one area, but are average/below average in another. I am not sure what the CE pass mark is - but Mill Hill sets its own entrance exams which take place in the Jan before entry in the Sept. see the mill hill website for more details. CE is used for setting purposes only (but believe me is still v stressful for all concerned).
If you are interested in starting in y7 in Sept then you should contact Belmont ASAP - they are v helpful and also the school office is friendly (unlike some schools i have phoned).
