DS2 is in year 9. We have just had a letter from his school, totally out of the blue, telling us that he has been entered for Mathematics B Module 1 Tier H GCSE this summer.
As he is only in year 9 this was a bit of a surprise! He didn't know anything about it, and nor did we. He's in the top set for maths, but doesn't seem to be especially good at maths - certainly not a G&T student.
The school must believe he's capable of passing, otherwise they wouldn't have entered him - but why do they do this? What does it mean?
And what if he fails or gets a low grade - can he re-take it? As maths is such an important subject I want him to have the opportunity to get the best grade that he can.
Any insights as to why this has been done would be gratefully received! (I am going to call the school on Tuesday, but just wondered if anyone here had any ideas)
