Anyone else's dcs doing 12 GCSEs?

I'd blithely assumed that DS would be doing 9 or 10 GCSEs, but got the option booklet yesterday and he has to take 12 options, only one of which can be a soft option like dance/drama/art/tech.

He's not the hardest working person in the world and I'm worried that he won't be able to cope with the work (it's a grammar).

Any reassurance/experience gratefully received!

How much do GCSEs cost each? and what about AS levels and A2s? I'm having a mild sense of panic at thought of big bills forthcoming...

Yes, seems dd does 12 too. Wish she did Latin - think it's key to language development.

Totally agree with you Roisin (sadly).

Apparently last year only 51% was needed to get a Bin higher level maths . I read an article about how GCSEs were to beome easier in The Times today, I'm sure

mine does latin, agree with you neverwasswedish

roisin your post tells all there is to tell about modern Edu - speak. Totally ridiculous to weight subjects in this way.

i think the amount young people do depends on what the teachers think they are able to do (not that this is always right).

mY DH1 TOOK 13 gsce'S last year and this year dh2 is taking 5 GCSE's. Both at same school but have different capabilities

DD1 did two GCSEs last year, and is doing another 11 this year, plus an extra Maths qualification. However, one is a short course (so half a GCSE apparently), plus IT is two whole GCSEs, one of which is coursework only, and the other has a timed practical instead of an exam. Standard numbers for top sets at her school, but I believe more than the grammars in the next county.

I am not letting dd take the full quotient of gcses

ds did 10 and had a deep understanding

dd is set to 50% more than that..and i just do not agree with

dd like your ds can be lazy and i just think she will get a bunch of mediocre grades in an awful lot of subjects

its all league table related imo
