Ok - dd's parent's evening last night - hugely complimentary, hard working focussed, interested, pleasure to teach all the usual guff. All 6s and 7s apart from 5b for German and Spanish, both of which she started last year , and 5c for Latin, which she started this year.

Apart from ICT. 4b. Dd has said the teacher doesn't give them all the information they need for the tasks they are given, and when asked for more info, just says the same thing again and walks away. Last night the teacher said "I had no idea you were finding it difficult - why didn't you say?" Would you have though that a 4b would have been a bit of a clue to a teacher that a child was struggling?

She made dd promise to find her and ask for help if she needs it - is there anything else that she/we/dd should be doing?

I remember being impressed with one public school as they had a library without computers which I thought was a very good idea. They had other libraries wit computers but if the teacher or chid just wanted to use books they could do.

My DS2 (year 8) does most of his 'written' homework on the computer, eg History, geog, English etc, and the school (grammar school) doesn't seem to object to it.....at least I don't think so, may find out next week at Parents eve, you lot have got me worried now!

Does most of his research on the computer too, even though we have lots of books in the house. He doesn't just copy and paste though, reads the info and then uses it.

That's the main thing, bags - that the information goes via the head (selected, summarised). It doesn't really matter where it comes from or how it gets presented unless those are the focal points of the task.

We have computers in our school library too, but if I don't want the pupils to use them, I just tell them not to, unless it is to access teh library information system.

They aren't being forced to hand write to make them use books - my unclarity, sorry. They have to hand write sometimes in order to make sure they can! They also have to use reference books rather than the internet sometimes - again so that they can.

An update on dd's ICT problems - the Head of Department rang me today to say that she was going to talk to dd this afternoon then ring me.

Dd left her phone home today so I can't forewarn her - probably a good thing!
