Snow Days - what is your policy?

We rarely get decent snow here as we are coastal, but our HT informed us that policy is that even if the school is closed staff are expected to come in, unless they are unable to do so because of local snow conditions.

So although the school is closed to students, staff are expected to come in and work.

Is this the same where you are?

I set out this morning at 7 am in an effort to get into my school but had to turn back after watching the cars in front of me skid backwards down the hill and crash into one another. Managed to notify my head of department that I wouldn't be in at 7.15 am. Is that dedicated/prompt enough??

I did actually get in to school today but was sent home by my deputy head an hour later as I live one of the furthest away and at a particularly difficult place to get to regards snow.

My car skidded three times on my way there. I ended up going sideways downt he hill narrowly missing cars either side - I still don't know how I did it. Another car crashed just outside the school I work at narrowly missing two of our infant children.

The school was open but and there was about half the staff who managed to get in, taking risks in their cars as they live a distance from school, o can't walk and many of our bus routes were disrupted. The head was unable to get in. It was the teachers and TAs stood in the playground advising parents. The school remianed open but parents were advised that they should take their children home if they could, and if leaving them to ensure that they could get back.

DD's school was open but again with minimal staff. Luckily it is a very small school so they could cope. I took DD home early as I didn't want to venture out in the car again.

On Tuesday neither DD or myself got to our schools as the snow was just too bad. Both schools were open though.

I actually don't know if I will get paid for Tuesday or most of today. I am not a teacher anymore, I work as a TA instead. And as I didnt go in despite school staying open I could have my pay docked.
