DD (13) has a 'Just Do It' ruck sack. Seems to be the in thing at the secondary schools round here. I see hundreds of them at my secondary school too.

PestoMonster · 11/01/2009 15:46

My dd1 is eleven and has one of

these rucksacks

now that she is at secondary school.

christywhisty · 11/01/2009 21:36

My DD will be starting secondary in sept so have been asking DS yr8 and apparently it is either "just do it" bags or Jane Norman

glitteryprincess · 11/01/2009 23:46

My DD(10) has a Just do it rucksack.

UnfortunatelyMe · 11/01/2009 23:55

Ive got dd one of these

CeceliaAhern · 11/01/2009 23:58

It won't be big enough for everything she needs to take. It is very nice though.

seeker · 12/01/2009 06:14

My dd uses any bag she can find so long as it is obviously too small and will ensure that her carefully prepared homework will be a crumpled mess by the time she gets to school. Oh and if it's raining the bag has to be thin cotton so that the aforementioned carefully prepared homework is wet as well!

magentadreamer · 12/01/2009 07:31

DD has a rucksack from Ikea it actually splits into two seperate rucksacks. The half DD uses has padded shoulder straps etc loads of pockets and sections to put stuff into as well.

SueW · 12/01/2009 07:44

Mine (12yo) uses a bag which was free with a magazine e.g. Glamour, Marie Claire last year.

She doesn't have to carry a lot of homework to and from school as she stays to do it there.

Jane Norman are quite popular here too. Or Jack Wills.

malovitt · 12/01/2009 08:00

Seeker, I agree. My son repacks his bag about ten times in the morning in an attempt to make it 'look smaller', squashing everything up and making his packed lunch a soggy mess.

What is it with those 'just do it' rucksacks? They are absolutely tiny! Luckily, they are considered a bit naff round here so mine don't want them.

christywhisty · 12/01/2009 08:12

DS has www.surf-life.co.uk/2008/08/14/element-backpacks-element-perth-backpacks-black/ I didn't pay that price for it but it still wasn't cheap. But it is very good quality and DS likes it and he straps his pe bag into where the skateboard should go.

bellavita · 12/01/2009 08:39

christy - DS has an Element back pack. We actually bought it in the US in the summer whilst on holiday, think with the exchange rate then we paid about £25, but well worth the money and it is good quality like you say.

He can get all of his books in and his boot bag for rugby.

He does wear it half way down his backside though!

seeker · 12/01/2009 09:33

I don't know about your dds, but mine would DIE rather than carry a back pack!

She often uses one of those Cath Kitson reusable shopping bags from Tesco - which at least has the virtue of being big enough.

ukpluvver · 13/01/2009 14:13

jane norman ones, or nice sparkly ones out of new look and such

she said that kids with rucksacks or freebee bags get a hard time.

hennipenni · 13/01/2009 14:54

Same here as ukpluvver and seeker with the added attraction of the lining being ripped and DDs lovingly attended homework screwed up at the bottom along with a manky apple and tomorrows ingredient list for cookery (or what ever it's called at her school).

BloodyCold · 13/01/2009 16:04

I caved into DD's constant pestering and got her a (very nice) cheap handbag for school as she was the only Yr7 girl not to have one apparently . I am expecting her to go back to her large tote bag as soon as she gets fed up with carrying her stuff .

She had a pink Reebok rucksack when she started in September, then needed a 'proper bag' so we got a large tote bag and she now has the 'too small' handbag. I give up!!

janeite · 14/01/2009 19:05

DD2 Year 7 has a messenger type bag from Argos. Most of her friends have something like that or a backpack.

DD1 Year 9 and her friends tend to have bags from H&M that are like fabric book bags but a bit bigger and with a zip, or big tote bags from places like Topshop, Warehouse or Oasis.

scienceteacher · 14/01/2009 19:25

My DD has a school uniform backpack - fairly ergonomic thing with lots of padding and pockets.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 15/01/2009 16:20

All the girls at DDs school have backpacks from Animal, Roxy or O'Neill or similar surfy brands.

PrimulaVeris · 15/01/2009 16:40

Roxy backpack - 'tis brill

She has now Y8 & decided she'd like a trendy shoulder bag or handbag but I am refusing -she's got a mile and half to walk with several kilos of homework every day.

janeite · 15/01/2009 20:31

I agree that handbags are totally inappropriate as school bags, whatever "evrybody else" may be doing!

SlartyBartFast · 15/01/2009 20:36

dd now has a handbag!
and i picked her up from school today

and absolutely loads of them had them, clones, the lot of them

might write a letter of complaint, saying the MUST have rucksacks, what about their posture and stuff

OP posts:
janeite · 15/01/2009 20:38

It is easier for parents to "police" one girl than schools to "police" hundreds though. Would take a lot of detentions for girls who only have handbags!
