the last time I missed the last bus it took be 90 minutes to walk home. I just do not know how not to miss this again.

Get a watch.

AMumInScotland · 19/11/2008 13:32

What are you doing when you should be heading for the bus? Do your classes run late, does it take you ages to get stuff from your locker, or are you chatting and lose track of the time? You need to work out what's the latest time you have to start towards the bus stop, add some extra just in case, and make sure you head off when you have to. Do you have a mobile phone on you, or a watch with an alarm? You could set it to beep at you when you have to get moving.

I work at a bar and finish my shift at 11pm. The last bus leaves at 11.05pm so I do not have a lot of time ot get this bus.

I got to dash and run to get it. I miss it 2 or 3 times a week. I can't go on like this.

can you not negotiate with your boss to work through a break or start 10 mins early to ensure you can leave 5 mins early?

NicolaDrummond · 19/11/2008 13:38

I have tried but he has put a stop to it. He is not a nice man. Me and my friend use to leave 5 minutes early but he won't allow this now.

I am seriously thinking about lokking for another job.

I think if your boss won't let you leave a few minutes earlier to allow you to get home safely, then you need to be looking for another job - a 90 minute walk at that time of night is not a great idea. (I was assuming you meant a school bus as you've posted in secondary education!)

NicolaDrummond · 19/11/2008 13:49

sorry. I am new to mumsnet. the walk home is very dark and I try to run a bit of the way, which keeps me fit.

Some other bars in town, they supply a taxi back for the bar staff for the journey home. I am thinking of asking the boss to do this for me.

I enjoy my job but not the journey home

That sounds like a good plan - he does have some responsibility for your safety if you work late shifts. If he won't do it, would you be able to arrange one yourself and pay it out of your wages, or is that too big a hit?

NicolaDrummond · 19/11/2008 14:17

i don't know. i think other bars include for taxis etc so long s 4 ppl share.

I thought this was a should it be "I miss th4e bus often" or I often miss the bus" question.

  1. Ask boss to pay for taxi/ contribute towards taxi.
  1. Look for another job.
  1. Get a bike.
