Bah Humbug! Secondary school has sense of humour failure.

Yr 8 boy in DS#1's school comes in wearing a girl's uniform to raise money today. Twas proper uniform. But HT sent him home and made him give all the money back!

Reason for sending him home? School couldn't guarantee he wouldn't be picked on. No lad without balls of steel (so to speak) would do this anyway, so why would they worry.

I say Boo! He used initiative and humour in the service of a charitable cause.

How pathetic

OrmIrian · 14/11/2008 20:47

Yes. That's what I thought too.

I agree with you.

that's madness. I think he should be applauded for his ingenuity. And as you say he must be incredibly confident and self-assured to do such a thing in the first place!

brimfull · 15/11/2008 12:48

brilliant idea

they should do a complete cross dressing day in support of "youth transvestite charity"

TrinityRhino · 15/11/2008 12:50

what a twatty school
good idea that lad had and should not have been penalised for it

OrmIrian · 15/11/2008 14:23

Funny thing is that it isn't a twatty school trinity. It's a fantastic school and the head is wonderful normally. I think she is just a little too hung up on getting the previously ill-discplined and disinterested pupils on board. But this was indeed a twattish decision. DS was outraged as were most of the children as far as I can tell.

If girls can sue for the right to wear trousers as part of uniform under the Sex Discrimination Act, it seems odd to stop boys wearing skirts if they want to, frankly. Especially for charity. He's a good lad and the head is being a bit silly.

mummyflood · 15/11/2008 17:41

I think its a brilliant idea, and I know that my Yr8 lad & his mates would have supported him all the way. However, can I ask, did he ask permission/let the school know what he was doing it for, if so would it have been better received??

DisasterArea · 15/11/2008 17:43

now DD goes to a bit of a twatty school but the lone boy dressed in his sisters clothes yesterday wasn't sent home like i really would expect them to.
schools are odd places aren't they.

psychomum5 · 15/11/2008 17:46

one of the secondary schools by us all wore PJ's to school yesterday for children in need.

wonderful idea IMO, as was that lad you mention.

some schools really have no sense of fun anymore

foxytocin · 15/11/2008 17:49

definitely sense of humour failure. the boys at our school just about wet them selves at the idea of dressing up in a frock.
