What percentage of full timetable do NQTs work at your school?

and/or does anyone know what the official policy is?

At our school a 'regular full timetable' is 22 out of 25 (1-hr lessons) plus a form group.

Current NQTs have 21 out of 25 lessons, but no form group. I think this is quite stingy, and is considerably more than NQTs in the recent past. In their 'free periods' they also have 1 hr per week with a subject mentor, and 1 hr per week with NQT supervisor.

I think DD1 said she gets 6 lessons off out of 25, roisin; but she does have a form group (Y8) but I don't know what she gets in the way of mentoring etc.

I will ask her again next time we speak!

Also she has to do outside supervision one day a week (IIRC)

90% of full time. In practive this means 6 doubles for planning etc rather than 3

they don't have a form group but they do 'shadow'

It's being on the gate in the morning plus breaks & lunchtime supervision (not just her on her own, obv they do it in a bunch)

your NQTs should be doing 90% of 22 which is 20 at the most (19.8 in fact!) their mentor session comes as a protected free normally, they should also have 2 periods for PPA, the additional meeting with supervisor is not bad, since these often happen after school and at least if they're in a meeting they can't do cover!

not having a tutor group probably gives them an extra hour a week at least, plus less hassle to deal with in between times

Oh they probably call it duty too!

Anyway have just spoken to her - her "duty" is gate & breaks, not lunchtime (lunchtime is separate & is paid!) & all the staff do that.

And although she has a form group it's just 10 minutes morning & afternoon, not an actual form tutor period.

I think if you went to 3 or 4 decimal places she is probably doing 90% of mainscale

They are quite time consuming even if it is only for 10 mins morning and afternoon. Form tutor is the pivotal point of contact for any kid in the form

They teach 19/25 at our school (other staff do 21/25) and just shadow a tutor group to learn the ropes. No duty at all.

When I was an NQT a few years ago at the same school I did 21/25 and had a tutor group for 20 mins a day and had 30 mins of duty a week so things are definitely improving!!
