School bags

Arghhh - the dds go back next week and I haven't got dd2 (starting secondary) a new schoolbag (her old primary school one has gone off to the charity shop, deemd "too babyish").

Where can I get her a decent bag please? What kind of bags are girls using nowadays?

I've just bought dd a 'Just Do It' ruck sack for her school bag. It seems to be the in thing at her school. Bit expensive for my liking, £15, but I know it will be used every single day and probably weekends too.

Thank you. Is that a Nike one? Don't mean to sound ungrateful but she's not really into sports-type stuff and pulled horrible faces at the (what I thought was a) very sensible looking Head rucksack in WH Smiths today.

Any more suggestions for a v fussy 11 year old?!

Cath Kidston in rock and roll Dulwich. I sent DS1 in with a bland sports bag and then we bought her proper one the first weekend when she'd seen what everyone else had.

Agh - now I feel REALLY fussy as there is no way she would want one of those! She is a bit tomboyish, a bit baby emo. Says she wants a satchel type rather than a backpack - but the only satchel type I found was in Gap and seemed a bit "young" if that makes sense.

Big sister and friends have this sort of thing but dd2 is a little (whispers) scatty and would inevitably lose things if they weren't all zipped in securely.

Love the idea of all the girls with Cath Kidston bags! I love CK - sadly the dds don't.

Have you tried the supermarkets? They usually do a range for going back to school. DD had a bag from Asda a couple of years ago. It was a pink satchel type one.

My dd is in the emo direction too and she was q.satisfied with a cheapo Tesco satchel.

You can get ergonomically designed ones that are good for their backs when carrying round 50,000 books. They start at about £59.99

We call dd the 'bag lady' - she always trails off to school with a collection of bags for books, sports kit etc. I have bought her the odd bag, but on the whole she uses Jane Normal, Abercrombie or any other 'cool' bags that are lying around the house.
