Moving into catchment AFTER secondary choosing

What happens if you move into the catchment area of a good school after the cut off point for choosing a secondary school?

We're hoping to move into the catchment but it may have to be after we get back off holiday which is the middle of Oct, 2009. DS will be in year 6. Will they have already chosen secondary schools by then?

If you miss the cut-off you have to go on the waiting list, unless your LEA reserves places for people moving into the area.

Depends - I think our LEA is usually October half term deadline for applications. If you miss it you go into the mix once the places are allocated and accepted.

I think if you are buying a house, you just need to get your solicitor to write a letter confirming that you going through the process.

in our area, cut-off is Oct 24th. If it is an over-subscribed school, do not expect they will have spaces for 'newcomers' to area.

In Herts you need to provide evidence of your new address by 26th November. Either a copy of the exchange of contracts or a rental agreement for at least 6 months. You apply in the normal way though - application in by 24th October and using current address.

Although we don't have catchments - they're called 'priority areas'
