Is it usual for school shirts/blouses to be polycotton?

I'm rather surprised that 100% cotton isn't readily available.

M&S have pure cotton ones, but poly-cotton is the norm.

palaver · 13/07/2008 13:58

you need m&s

WendyWeber · 13/07/2008 14:00

The not-non-iron are a bit cheaper

TooTicky · 13/07/2008 14:01

Unfortunately we need blue. For a girl. And there is nowt.

dd has one of those 100% cotton 'non-iron' shirts and IME they don't do what they say on the tin.

Well there are these but it seems to be a unisex shirt.

puppydavies · 13/07/2008 14:13

next do them in blue, is "boy's" style but that's just no scallops/puffs/flower buttons.

puppydavies · 13/07/2008 14:14

oh you mean shirt shirts oops.

fizzbuzz · 13/07/2008 21:27

The polyester makes them more hardwearing, thats why they are a p/c mix.

Not sure how hardwearing 100% woven cotton shirt would be... 100% cotton t-shirt/polo shirt would be no problem

Get the poly - who want to be ironing 5 cotton shirts per week (plus any other DC's/DH) ? I positively seek out poly cotton polo shirts too [lazy]

I prefer cotton too, more breathable.

polycotton fine for my dc's and less hassle

they breathe through their lungs

TooTicky · 13/07/2008 22:59

Synthetic fibres trap air and retain more heat.

I have resigned myself to ironing once dd1 starts secondary school - I have got away without doing it for years

My ds2 absolutely has to have at least cotton rich trousers - bog standard school ones bring him out in dreadful eczema.

Yes, and the specialist eczema companies charge a fortune. At least at Clean Slate you get organic and fair trade for your money. Not that they do blue
