Can see my dd1 heading straight for any number of school around here that everyone else avoids by pretending to be religious
The ofsted for the worst one seems very good, and it appears to offer a lot more appealing subjects than others...

  • not everyone with dcs at religious schools pretends to be religious. Some of us actually are religious.

If the school your dd is headed for got a very good Ofsted report, that's a good thing isn't it?

charliecat · 08/07/2008 17:25

Oh yes, forgot about the few that are genuine
I dont know about he ofsted report, it means really they have the paper work in place doesn't it?

yes my son does, it makes me laugh when people moan about it when they know nothing of the reality of it.

luckylady74 · 08/07/2008 17:28

Ours will, but in our area that still means way above average. A good ofsted is a good starting point, as are subjects that appeal to your kids - what does worst mean - what is it a-c %?

Jas · 08/07/2008 17:42

Not yet, but it is increasingly likely. It is the seond lowest in our county for a-c%, but the only secondary in the town.

charliecat · 08/07/2008 18:10

Whats it really like SEA? Are the classes full of disruptive kids?
Is your son happy there? Achieving?

Havent looked at a-c yet...Are your kids going with groups of mates or are they going to be going alone?
Ive just had dd1s parents meeting. Shes bright, filling all the right boxes. Perfectly capable of passing the 11 plus but with no personal OMPH.
No desire to learn, no little spark burning wanting to know more.

southeastastra · 08/07/2008 19:34

yes i'd say he was definitely achieving. the school is very forward thinking and though there are disruptive kids they haven't really affected ds.

charliecat · 08/07/2008 19:42

Oh thats good to hear, very good.
I dont know why im asking..I went to the school that noone wanted to go to and it was fine. In 3rd year we had a USELESS maths teacher. And the class was AWFUL Same kids as usual but they knew they could walk all over him...but in 4th year they got a radical teacher in to bring us up to scratch.
Thats the only bad thing I could say about it.

i always find the people that moan about the school are the ones that know nothing about it

janeite · 08/07/2008 19:52

If you are talking about "crap" in terms of results, please don't only use that to form your judgements. Look at the Ofsted reports, visit the schools, talk to teachers/pupils/parents of current pupils then decide! If the Ofsted is very good it's hardly going to be the "worst" school!! Pupils in these schools may well be making better progress than pupils in so-called "good" schools, so look at Contextual Value Added data too, if you can get it.

Good luck deciding!

Around here we can choose which school as theres room in them all, but I chose one with a bad reputation for my youngest ds. It met his needs more than the one my other ds is at;

more interested in stuff other than exam results;
they don't just pursume that every pupil will go to university, and instead guide each pupil to their own role in life;
they are so delighted to have parents be involved and interested in the school and their son's education that they will make you feel really welcome, and work with you;
although my ds mixes with a "rougher" crowd than his brother does, they are actually decent kids when you get to know them, and the other parents are very nice too;
overall we made the right choice for our ds, but I do find myself having to defend it a lot.
