I've got dd's first consultation evening at secondary school this afternoon. I've just checked her form, with the list of teachers that are expecting me and one of them is one of my old teachers and one of them is a colleague of my mum! It all feels very strange and I feel ridiculously nervous! They knew me as a student, then dd of a local head teacher and now I'm the mother! With a bit of luck, they won't recognise me, but sadly I look very like my mother and she's still rather active on the teaching front in the borough!

Maureen - we had ours last night. They give forms to the girls the week before sot hat they can make appointments with the teachers we want to see. Dd did this beautifully - then I lost the form! I had to get there early and go to all the teachers and ask them to look down their lists and find out when we were due to see them. It was so awful - I felt like a very grubby, scruffy 7 year old by the time I had finished! Just think of me as you coolly and collectedly greet your old teacher and accept her compliments about your wonderful dd!

Mm, yes we've spent the last 2 weeks filling a card too. I did ask that whereever possible the teachers could stick as closely together as possible, but I do understand that as there are 12 yr 7 classes it might not be possible. Everyone has got me between 5 and 6, apart from one bloody teacher who has given me 7.20 fgs! Its RE, so I'll see how I feel at 6pm, I think!

Well I'm back! One of the teachers in question asked if he had taught either me or DH, so I had to admit it was me! He then said, 'god, you've done bloody well in DD, haven't you!' We kinda skipped dd after that, since all he could say was shes bloody marvellous and went on a trip down memory lane! At the end he said, 'I'm going to probably embarass you and your poor dd now, because I'm gonna kiss you gooodbye!

All in all dd's not a bad kid. Excelling in all her subjects and rather bloody fab at maths in paricular!

Isn't it lovely hearing teachers say nice things about your child? Such an ego boost! The first one we saw last night was dd's form tutor and she laughed and said "I think yo're going to have a very pleasant evening" And we did. I wanted to see more teachers to get more vicarious praise - dp had to drag me kicking and screaming out after 6 appointments!
