Gcse options- did your y9 get their choices?

Dc got options back last monday and great got their 2 choices. However other friends ended up with 1 option that wasnt one they picked at all. And another got choices 3 and 4.

i guess the problem is they presented to the kids they were very likely to get choice 1. And it was rare not to.

i think as well it is because they only have the 2 choices as 2 are taken by mfl and a humanity

Also i think they said they do first choice first but dont prioritise the ones who didnt get that’s 2nd choice. So classes could be full from 1st choice then others get the 2nd choice leaving some down to 3rd /4th or below.
Did others kids get what they wanted?

Yeah have to do science but not an option to select between the 2 and at parents/options evening it was said the school decide so maybe he wasn’t given the option but 2 of 3 sciences said he should be doing sep. Who knows luckily it doesn’t make a difference in terms of next steps

Our school have done this with maths. No idea if some borderline DC will be taking Foundation or Higher GCSE.
From what was said by teacher at school, I suspect lots of parents complain and attempt to change the tier offered.

Separate science either takes up an option or doesnt but requires a commitment to period 6 at DD's school. There seems no restrictions on who takes it.
Further maths can be taken in 'period 6'. If you opt for sep science & further maths you must use an option choice for sep science so period 6 can be used for further maths. It also restricts the total number of GCSEs. You get four options so still room for other preferences.
Since Y9 maths sets have been following a higher or foundation syllabus. There is flex though. During and at the end of Y9 DD has had friends who have moved from a foundation to higher set. From Y10 science sets will follow a broadly foundation or higher syllabus but again movement is possible.

Nothing else is setted, which I imagine feeds into the options flexibility. MFL was in Y8 and 9. However, relatively few students take it and those that do are mainly those who were in set 1.

Yeah we don’t know sets for subjects. So looked again at the options booklet and both triple and combined science are taught over the same number of hours but some students are accelerated for exams for triple science. So def didn’t need to select it as an option. Weird how schools do it so differently!
