Laptop for sixth form - recommendations?

Hi. My DC school is moving from iPads to windows devices so we need to get something new for 6th form. These are the requirements:

touch screen
detachable or flip screen to enable flat writing using a stylus
keyboard

also some technical specs but we can check these.

Can anyone recommend something that fits the bill? The detachable/flip screen in particular seems quite limiting…

Surface pro? Mine is 6 years old and going strong still. It's particularly useful for writing formulae etc in studying sciences.

Thanks - will look it up! DC is doing STEM subjects so the formula thing sounds good. Do you have a separate keyboard for it?

Second for Surface pro.

Yes there's a magnetic keyboard that acts as a cover too. Plus a pen (I bought a generic one from Amazon rather than the extortionate branded one)

DS has a surface go, has done since year 7. He’s and of year 9 and it’s still going strong

Why does it have to be Windows?

An iPad with magic keyboard will be able to do anything unless they are using software programs that only have windows versions (unlikely nowadays).

For my dc's 6th form they have to submit work in word.

I'm not sure if it's because most companies use windows base systems, so people have some knowledge of use.

That’s just the new school policy - I think because Microsoft apps are not as easy to use on Apple devices - excel in particular, but Word is also not as user friendly. Plus apparently some online resources the school uses don’t function properly on Apple devices.

I hadn’t heard of this but looks very like a surface pro but much cheaper - what am I missing?!

Nothing, it has been great for DS. It’s just a bit smaller than a surface pro I think, probably less memory? DS saves everything to school’s sharepoint so memory not too crucial.

It sounds great, but I think it may have been discontinued as I can only find the surface pro for sale now (which is much more expensive)
