Affordable all-ground rugby boots for Year 7 with slim feet

My son's new secondary have said he needs rugby boots up until Christmas suitable for all ground (i.e. not soft ground or firm ground). Struggling to see the wood for the trees on line as they all seem to be ground specific. I don't want to spend a lot of money as he will outgrow them but they need to be comfortable for an 11/12 year old. He has slimmer feet currently adult size 6. please help me with suggestions!

Have a look at Decathalon - they're great for entry level sports great. You can filter the choices for 'grass' and as long as you stay away from metal or removable studs I'm sure they'll be fine.

I'd go for the firm ground ones.... the studs on most don't look too big

Thanks. I am still totally baffled by the choice! I can't find anything at all for "normal ground". Either firm or soft! His school has just won an award for their pitches but as he will be playing September to December I am imagining that the ground is going to be more soft than hard! The school is new to us so I don't know any of the other parents to ask!

Did they actually say "not soft ground or firm ground"? I'd ask what on earth they mean. You're right the ground will vary with the weather: at my daughter's club the training pitch is soft except at the very beginning and end of the season - it's next to a canal. Anyway, for most pitches, firm-ground boots are probably a better choice if you're wanting to get through the season with only one pair: if you wear firm-ground boots on soft ground, you'll just slip about more; but if you wear boots for soft-ground boots on firm ground, the studs'll hurt your feet when you run.

You could also just get soft-ground boots and swap the studs for shorter ones when the ground is firmer - but you might still be uncomfortable running, as firm-ground boots have more as well as shorter studs to spread your weight better. Or switch to soccer boots when the ground's too hard for your soft-ground boots (provided they have rounded studs so you don't cut anyone).

That was perhaps a bit much! In short, for a dozen or so Games lessons, he'll be fine with a pair of cheap, firm-ground rugby boots.

The school secretary emailed the Director of Sport for me this morning and I had a reply to say that he needs soft ground boots with removable studs and these don't have to be sport specific (i.e. a pair of soft ground footy boots will be fine too as he will be playing football after Christmas). Thanks to everyone who replied on my thread!
