Should extra time for A level class tests match exam arrangements?

If you have a child in year 12 doing A levels and they have extra time for exams should the school put in place the extra time for class tests or just the mock exams and actual exams? How can they do this for class tests if the test is the same length as the lesson?

I think it's really unfair to expect students to give up break, lunch or their own time. It's not their fault they need additional time and it makes it seem like a punishment (particularly for younger students. I'm always happy to facilitate if they ask). I'd do extra time next lesson and ensure they have the materials to catch up eg: printed retrieval/notes.

That simply doesn't work. If my lesson is an hour and my essay is an hour, giving them part of tomorrow's lesson gives them way more than 25% extra time. Because even if they're not writing in the gap it's way more thinking and prep time

I am a TA working with exam classes - in an actual mock yes ALWAYS. In other tests in theory yes, in practice - if the lesson is one hour and the test is one hour, then it will make them late for their next class and make the teacher, and the next class using the room late for theirs. Is that actually going to cause more collective disadvantage to the student who misses their break and the first part of the next class, the teacher who misses their break and the first part of their next class, the students coming to the teacher's next class who have to hang around and miss learning time, than the student not having extra time in every test. Sometimes we get them to finish the test at home.

It should really be part of their normal way of working and apply for all their tests. If I was supervising students who were unable to take any extra time and hadn't finished because of this then I would be expected to fill out a normal way of working form as part of the evidence showing that they do require extra time. Usually though access is provided by LSA's and we have had to supervise extra time students in a different room to ensure that they can get their full extra time.

It's not a perfect solution, but if my essay is an hour and they need one hour 15 minutes, the additional time needs to be offered fairly. Making students give up their break isn't fair.

It is more thinking and prep time, but that's unavoidable. I can see how this would be problematic at ALevel, but I'm yet to find a better solution for KS3/ks4.
