HELP! DC has GCSE tomorrow and feels very unwell

DC has come down with what we assume is some
sort of virus - high temperature, swollen tonsils and pounding headache. They’re doing dual
award science chemistry in the morning (definitely NOT their strongest subject either).

They will obviously do their utmost to get in and sit the exam, but bar a minor miracle, I can imagine they’re going to feel pretty horrendous tomorrow anyway.

We’ve just emailed the HoY and their tutor to give them a heads up. Is there anything else we should be doing (apart from the normal illness care of pain killers, water, sleep etc)?!

My DD had the exact same the first week of the exams. Started the Friday before and we managed to get her to the GP who prescribed a throat spray. Lost her voice by Sunday and was coughing like a smoker on 60 a day!
she managed to go though and get through all her exams that week.
its so frustrating when things like that happen, especially when they have worked so hard.

she still not 100% now

Poor thing. It’s not fair is it, when they’ve worked so hard (I know it’s also one of those things and a life lesson blah blah blah…but still tough nevertheless!).

School have been very good, the exams officer said if she was struggling in exams they would allow her a fresh air/water break and ‘stop the clock’ for her for that time. She’s not had to use it but good to know anyway (not sure how they manage that logistically?!).

Hope your DD manages to get some proper rest over the half term break and gets what she deserves in terms of her effort. They’re all amazing young people. The stress, intensity and sheer volume is I’m sure at least ten-fold of what we had in the 1990s!
