Does your child attend an online high school?

Dd (going through Camhs) hates school. It’s a really good school and they couldn’t have been more supportive. No bullying and she’s bright.
But she just hates school. Can’t get up at the time required, hates the fast transitions lesson to lesson. Has friends but gets overwhelmed by group friendships.
She’s in yr 8 so we’re still persevering but I’m thinking of online if she doesn’t settle. I know up to yr 9 can be problematic.
would appreciate any experiences.

It depends on how much money you have to spend on it. I only have experience of The Online School which was ok - a bit amateur but well meaning. I think Minerva and King's Interhigh are probably much better from a teaching POV but they are also a lot more expensive. Have a look at their websites as they tend to have webinars you can watch about their school. I also looked into Wolsey Hall which is a bit different as they don't have live lessons.

I was looking at Kings Interhigh. It is expensive and we would pay for it if we knew Dd would have a positive experience and be able achieve some good GCSEs. She is capable but just doesn’t like engaging with school.

My niece is at Elea High Online school - she seems to like it. She's a bit older than your DD but I think they take them younger.

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter hates school. My kids went through this. We followed unschooling for 3/4 years. We're both teachers but didn't teach our kids as we believe that they're better following their own interests. Our daughter became ill so education looked different for her but our son absolutely thrived!

They both chose to go back to school which we've supported by my son in y9 is struggling with the system and I often think they're both better out of it! Our experience led us to create our own maths platform which could be really useful for you although it's not a school but it does have e everything you'd need to pass GCSE.

I know it's scary to go against the norm as I put it off for years and only wish I'd done it sooner now! I like to remind people that it doesn't need to be forever but a break can be a very good thing and they honestly don't fall behind. Good luck to you both.

My DD is just finishing Y13 at Kings Interhigh, and was previously at myonlineschool.

DD got all A's at GCSE and is likely to get As for A Level.

Overall we have had a positive experience but their communication can be iffy. They take ages to respond to you and it is difficult to speak to anyone on the phone. We have had some excellent teachers and where we have had one that DD didn't approve of, we asked for a change and it was sorted very quickly without questions.

The online GCSEs worked very well. However, you pay for exams on top of fees and they can add up - A Levels in particular are very very expensive.

Taking the step out of mainstream can be scary but overall for us it has been positive - happy to answer any questions about Kings that you have.
