Private sixth form recommendations in North London for science A levels

Hi all, my SD is going to move to the UK and wants to become a veterinarian.
She is currently passing her EU baccalaureat and she will need to take her A-levels here in the UK before applying to a uni.

Anyone knows a good private 6th form in North London for STEM and sciences?
Thanks for your help 🙏

Brampton College, both my kids loved it.

What do you mean by "EU Baccalaureat"? Not the IB? Or the French Bac? It sounds like an age 18 qualification so how old will she be?

FutureVet · 24/04/2026 09:50

She s passing her IB, sorry

You can get into British universities with the IB, she might have to do an English exam if the IB wasn’t in English though

You sound French (it's "taking the IB" not "passing the IB" - a classic of the faux amis), so maybe not so familiar with British education. Vet schools accept the IB and I'm not even sure that taking A-levels after the IB would be advantageous, since they're at the same level. What is the rationale? Have you communicated with universities? Is her English not good enough for UK universities? All this is relevant to any recommendations you might be given about school choices.

Well spotted, I am a native French speaker indeed, but SD is from somewhere else.
I am not the parent or decision maker, just trying to help her find a good school in London.

How old is she? If she is already 17 or18 but really needs A levels for some reason what about MPW? You can also do them there in one year.

FutureVet · 25/04/2026 09:43

Unfortunately, MPW is too far.

Agree. OP, some English schools do IB instead of a levels as well - it’s a perfectly well recognised qualification for applying to UK universities.

I would have thought you could get to MPW South Kensington from most places in north london in about an hour. Often travelling across London is slower than travelling in. Anyway hope you find somewhere suitable.

Go and see Brampton, it’s in Hendon. The teaching is fabulous and they are experts at kids coming from other eduction systems without GCSEs. She will probably be able to do French as a 4th subject. Or if her biology / chemistry is at AS standard they will support her doing the A levels in one year. It’s very personalised.

St Chris in Letchworth. Lots of N London kids and some French families. Excellent for STEM and they take lots of children who have come from other education systems and then get good grades for them . In recent years I can think of children coming to the school from Japan, Hong Kong, Spain, France and the US school systems.
