What documented guidance is there to help head masters decide if exclusion is appropriate?

The head of DDs secondry school claims there are no national guidelines to help him decide if the boy that sexually assaulted DD should be excluded or not.

We've found the teachernet ones to give him a hand here. Can you think of any more? Bless his heart, he needs all the help he can get.

Government guidance on Exclusion 2007 on teachernet. It is in several parts which can be accessed from the left hand menu.

Sorry assdoc didn't realise your dd had been sexually assaulted. Did this happen in school? What did the police do?

Could it be that the headteacher feels that police sanctions are adequate.

FWIW, I think he should be excluded for assault, I mean, there isn't much someone can do that's worse.

It happened on a bus on the journey home from school. It was a prolonged and serious assault. The police arrested the boy. Kept him in cells for ten hours then issued him with a reprimand, which, as it was his first offence and as he was 14, was felt to be appropriate. They did however refer him to the Youth Offending Team to reflect the seriousness of the assault even though the YOT would not normally be involved at reprimand level.
