Latymer Edmonton & Latymer Upper
Unfortunately, we can't decide between Latymer Edmonton and Latymer Upper. We are concerned that LU is removing GCSE except for math and English. Please help!

They are miles apart. Which is easier to get to and can you pay the fees at LU easily? I think you’ll be liable for the Autumn fees either way if you don’t make a decision this week?

I already know what you're saying. I'm just unsure whether GCSE will cause problems in the future ? I know this has been discussed a lot before. I want to hear the thoughts of those who accept LU.

The removal of GCSEs wouldn’t bother me but I know it would for some. I have an older child at LU and I know quite a few in their and younger years who have siblings joining in Y7. The parent body is very international and there are lots from countries where there is no equivalent to GCSEs so I suspect they are less concerned as many managed to go to UK Universities with no issue.
Only a handful left from my DCs year to go elsewhere for sixth form and they were mainly to other independent schools that required a tough exam at 16+ to get in. A couple went to state school sixth forms but those take pupils from abroad as well who may not have UK qualifications. (There are a few Americans for example in the state school I work at).
Did you go to the offer holder events- I’m assuming they discussed it in a fair amount of detail?
( also- they’ll be 2 years in to the process by then so if it’s not working they will have probably have changed it back by the time your child is in GCSE years!)

Yes, we attended the holders' event and I spoke with many parents, but my impression is that many parents don't know exactly what to expect. They just have too much faith in the school. my daughter has been accepted to both LU and another grammar school, and because we're not very familiar with the UK system, I'm very worried about problems during the university admissions process. I've read that Oxbridge University, in particular, values GCSE scores beyond math and English.
