Alternatives to A levels in London for a creative Year 10

DD doesn’t want to do A levels so we are looking at colleges in London; currently in year 10; something practical rather than academic will be better. She doesn’t want the standard office job.

We are going to see Fashion Retail Academy. What other options are out there? She loves fashion, is creative and have a good eye for detail.

I would explore UAL/Saint Martins and Istituto Marangoni short courses and especially foundation ones.

What about The Brit school? She is can apply for Year 12 for Design&Fashion strand

Thank you for the advice. Will look at the options recommended.

Can she do that at 16?

Would she consider an apprenticeship perhaps rather than a college course? I am sure there are plenty creative opportunities, including in fashion. Just another possible avenue....

Loads of kids don’t do A levels. One of my DDs didn’t. She trained as a dancer.
What about Btecs?
Construction industry?

There’s loads of sixth form colleges in London that offer creative subjects at T level/BTEC. Have you not googled? Confused

CollegesLondon · 13/04/2026 22:18

Will google it, however I wanted recommendations

im sure there’s a page on the gov.uk website where you can search for apprenticeships

Where are you in London OP? We are spoilt for choice. For something fashion related then my DS’s Gf has just got into the this course at the Brit school for September. Has she not got onto this one she was looking at fashion retail academy

Check out London screen academy, brilliant creative courses available and set up to funnel you into careers in film and TV.

beasmithwentworth · 13/04/2026 23:11

Yes LSA also great if her creativity/ interest is in film / tv production. They also do 1 A level there alongside the course they choose. It’s a brilliant school (but based in Highbury and Islington whereas Brit Is in S London so you might want to take that into account) that said I know plenty of students from where I am in SE London go to LSA and plenty of students at BRIT come from north London - but they are full time courses so a huge daily schlep could be an issue depending on the individual.

CollegesLondon · 14/04/2026 11:32

We are in South East London. I am not sure she wants a full time course, but something a bit more flexible.

I will write down the options recommended here.

Thank you
