City of London Girls - Sports Facilities Vs Godolphin and Latymer

My DD has received offers from City and Godolphin. We applied to City quite late and unfortunately missed all the open days, so we haven’t had a chance to see the facilities. As we’re currently abroad, I may not be able to visit before the acceptance deadline.
I’d really appreciate any insight, particularly from mums with sporty girls. What are the facilities like for outdoor sports, especially cricket and hockey? Do you feel the girls are genuinely encouraged and supported in sport? Many thanks

We missed City Open day too, as I was unwell. My daughter has received offers from both as well. Last year, we were talking to a friend at St Paul's Girls and she said if she hadn't got into St Paul's, she’d choose Godolphin because they’re very sporty. She was in Year 10. We are going to Godolpin now 90% - we'll confirm post opening day. My dd loved City when she went for the exams, though but it appears she has chosen Godolphin. I'm sure they are sporty at City too though.

City encourages all the girls to take part in sport and we're very happy with the amount our daughter is doing there, especially the swimming pool. They do have to go off site for playing fields so the facilities can't compare to Godolphin in that regard.

One of the alumni just got a gold medal in the Winter Olympics so they definitely do have some high level sportswomen!

I don’t have direct experience of City but one of the girls in my DD’s hockey team goes to City. My understanding from her mother is they don’t offer much, if any, hockey there and she wasn’t impressed with the overall sports provision. The girl in question is moving for sixth form as she wants a school which offers hockey and more sport generally.

Having looked on City’s sports fixtures website (https://sport.clsg.org.uk/webapp/sports.aspx?id=3362) I can’t see hockey listed. It sounds like you may not be London/UK based but if that’s incorrect and your DD plays for a club perhaps ask if anyone there is familiar with City.

I would say that the absence of hockey at the school hasn’t held the girl in question back as she is currently playing County hockey.

if you want hockey and cricket and great facilities, G&L is a no brainer. G&L fields many competitive teams in a huge variety of sports and has great on-site facilities. Sports is not a priority at City, the benefit of that is that I assume everyone can get involved and have a go and it is not too competitive to get onto the top teams, but you can also see from fixtures that they don't offer much and usually just against other smaller schools. City will do a few fixtures against FHSS / FHNW and the like once in a while, it will be participation sport mainly.

You can always visit after half-term. Hockey is very good at G&L. PS I don't have a child at either school but have a sporty DD and looked at all these schools at the time. Also have friends at both and DD has regularly had sports fixtures vs G&L.
