School shoes post surgery

Any recommendations for girls school shoes/black trainers post toenail surgery? My year 9 daughter is having surgery and will initially be in a surgical boot. We have been told 7-14 days off school with slow transition into normal shoes. Can anybody recommend black shoes or trainers with a wide toe base to get through those first 2-8 weeks? (School rules are strict- black school shoes, no trainer styles at all. But they will need to have some flexibility for medical
reasons surely!?)

DB Shoes sell shoes for specific foot conditions and have wide toe boxes and inserts you can remove for more toe room or space so you can wear a bandage or strapping.

They have lots of black shoes but they are online. Would the school not accept a doctor's letter to save you some money ? Mine used to do so.

Yea I’m sure school will have to accept alternative to their strict rules for footwear. I’m asking for recommendations people may have as she currently doesn’t have anything to wear even non regulation. So I’ll have to buy something for her anyway if you see what I mean. Her current trainers will be too narrow in the toe for sweeping/dressings, her school shoes will be too tight and other than that she has uggs, so not suitable either! Ill
look at DB shoes thanks

If you look for barefoot styles these often have very wide toe areas.

Camper and Ecco are worth a look

School will accept medical evidence.

i was in an accident and needed similar (was a teacher). I went to a running shop and got plain black trainers.

some barefoot shoes are close to plain blacks and do have a big toebox but they offer zero foot suppprt.

Looking at the options, this might be best. Thanks. She has white and lilac ones so I can add black ones to the collection 😆 seem to be quite ‘cool’ too bizarrely so that will please her more than the other options! 🙄

Ooh do they have wide toe base? I’ll take a look, they’d actually be ok for the uniform code too- she could wear them for the rest of the year

If you're asking school to waive normal uniform rules for medical reasons, then, unless your DD is using a stick or crutch or some other mobility aid, also ask them how she "proves" that this is allowed or she will very quickly get sick of telling every single teacher.

(my DD was allowed to wear trainers at a school that normally disallows them due to mobility problems; it was fine when she was also using a stick, but on other days she was forever getting pulled up by teachers who didn't know her).

Yes very. They were the only shoe that accommodated my DC’s splint

My son was allowed to wear comfortable shoes following surgery for as long as he needed them. We got permission from his head of year.
