11+ Offer Choices – CITY / SPS/HIGHGATE / HABS / UCS / LATYMER UPPER/NLS etc...

Now that offers are out, it would be really helpful if parents felt comfortable sharing their likely decisions for:
CITY / SPS/HIGHGATE / HABS / UCS / LATYMER UPPER/NLS etc...
If you already know which school you’ll be accepting or declining, please do share (if you’re happy to).
This might help give others a sense of potential movement.
Many thanks and congratulations again to all children!

We’re not dealing with waitlists — but so easily could have been. Coming from a prep with many girls holding multiple offers, will share what I know out of deep sympathy — and solidarity — with those waiting.

For what it’s worth, it’s a sentiment shared by many multiple-offer families I’ve spoken to over the weekend — we are all committed to making decisions as quickly as we can.

This process is so brutal, on so many levels. Please hang in there — I know these lists will move.

To that last point: the families I’m aware of that have already released places — at City, Latymer Upper, Westminster, Godolphin — have SPGS places and are certain of taking them.

There are quite a few that will wait until accepted student open days to make that call — there is a lot of discussion around wanting to get a sense of the schools without pressure — and of a desire to better understand the accepted cohort.

That’s not simply in the macro — but also in the micro: sensitivities around admission are so keen that (beyond very close friends) there’s almost no visibility around which girls from one’s own prep have offers.

The silence in this period — not least because halfterm just started so the girls aren’t chatting amongst themselves in class (as they otherwise would) — means we honestly don’t know which of our children’s friends have places in schools we’re considering.

But: CLGS and SPGS both are hosting admitted students on the 23rd of February — morning and afternoon, respectively. Given offer overlaps I’d expect real movement (not just for City, but for Godolphin and Latymer Upper) in the days following.

Well, hang on a minute.

We have both WU and SPGS and aren't leaning towards the latter at all.

Whilst it's an amazing school, it's not the only brilliant one and (like with many others) there are pros and cons and it's all down to families' circumstances (location, budget, coed, etc).

We are leaning towards Westminster, to be fair. They have been friendlier, seem more relaxed, take homework seriously, there wouldn't be any toxicity, etc.

I personally don't get the SPGS vibe.

Hm.

Didn’t suggest extrapolating from the leanings of our prep cohort any broader rule re: the decision making of others.

Simply indicated that (again: in our prep cohort) families with plural offers that included SPGS seemed to be favouring the latter.

Casting no aspersions: Westminster is an excellent institution—are the others I referenced.

On another note, absolutely agree re: breadth of pro/con metrics related to decision making (and the degree to which weighting of the same is necessarily family-circumstance dependent).

Re: the absence of ‘toxicity’ at Westminster — unclear as to your definition of the same so can’t comment with any certainty of having fully grasped your point.

That said, as one of the key differentiating factors between SPGS and Westminster is their status as single sex vs coeducation-focused institutions respectively, difficult to read of your comment without (perhaps unfairly) detecting a top line whiff of misogyny.

Edited

I know parents that have kids at WU and from what they say it is def not a relaxed school. Parents/kids are very competitive.

Well we have a definite offer for CLSG, I suggest you sign yourself up for the tour on 23rd. May help you to decide by looking inside the school

Thanks for that. Judging by what people say, it seems SPGS is the more strict school between the two - which is what I meant.

I am not expecting a school of Wesminster's caliber to take it easy - definitely not! :)

Some threads on thestudentroom seem to confirm my view as apparently it's more about freedom, independence, less rigour, etc.

And yes SPGS is def not relaxed either 😂but tbh I think they are probably similar in terms of academic pressure. It also depends how your dc handles it. For example my dd is the type who is relaxed no matter which school she is in 😂
