Bursary application

Two questions please

We have been for an open day at our local independent school which has an excellent reputation for children with SEN. The deputy head suggested I ask for support with a bursary
I’m in the the process of submitting application . Requesting around a third of the fees. We are fairly frugal but the most I could afford is around 65% -70%

The application form says her father must also complete even if we are separated. We have separated 5 years ago and I have her full time. He sees her a few hours once a month. He contributes nothing and is on benefits for long term serious health issues and will never be able to return to work
We separated due to domestic violence and we don’t communicate. He would absolutely not complete the form and it would be impossible to ask him to . What happens in this situation, does anyone know ?

Second question - my daughter receives DLA which I’ve included in the financial statement . I am assuming they will expect this to be included as income ?

Thank you for any insight

It's best to contact the school and ask them.

Their process may depend on whether they do the assessments inhouse or use a third party to determine eligibility.
My ex and I both had to complete the paperwork and interview. But the school contacted him and handled it so I didn't have to communicate with him which was a relief

I found the process very fair and as pleasant as a financial interview could be.

Following here too, I pay all fees, ex has remarried and we don't live together. He sees kids every few months in person. Would he be included in any bursary discussions?

Similar situation to me. And yes the ex had to be included. But I didn’t have to do anything but give them his email address and mobile number. They dealt with him.

@Elembeeee my ex doesnt contribute to school fees and will say so on any application. He recently has started paying me some maintenance, so 500 a month for 2 children but pretty much all his money goes on his rent etc. But would the school still consider his income as part of my application given he doesn't pay towards the fees. What I dont want is them to think we are one big family with his entire income considered.

@Dahlagain no it’s not like your income will be combined as a couple. It’s two households so his expenses and income are considered in isolation for how much he could contribute and yours is considered in isolation for what you could contribute.
