GCSE sport

Hello, my yr9 is now choosing his options. His number 1 choice is sports studies. He doesn’t play sports outside of school or clubs etc but is naturally active/able type of (adhd fuelled) busy boy. Is this going to be an issue?

Do you mean GCSE PE? If so it’s definitely better if a student plays a sport outside school as they can get to a higher level tbh (things like athletics where they can compete in the summer or football where they have a weekly match). It’s not impossible to do all three sports in school (and certainly common to do at least one) but its more of an issue. DS for example offered athletics and footy which he did in his own time and then IIRC table tennis in school. The practical element and the analysis of it is a fair chunk of the GCSE.

If you mean sports science then it’s not a GCSE, it’s a Cambridge Nationals qualification; I don’t know much about that one, but looking at the spec it doesn’t look as tho there is a similar element of practical performance (though there are practical assessments – but they seem to be more about looking at fitness assessments rather than playing a sport.

Ah yes, it’s not the gcse it’s the Cambridge nationals one. That’s probably in our favour then
