Switching Settings/Courses mid Year 12

DD16 is currently in her first year (Y12) studying a BTEC Extended Diploma, equivalent to 3 A Levels, in a sports setting. She isn't really enjoying it and is thinking about switching to another setting/college to do either A Levels, a different BTEC or a combination thereof, although still in conjunction with her sport.

I think it's too late now and that if she was going to change her mind, she would have to re-start Y12 from scratch in September 2026 and just write this year off as she's already missed too much content to catch up, but she seems to think an in year transfer might still be possible. I know it is obviously dependent on the individual setting and the courses she wants to switch to having spaces, but is it even worth her reaching out at what is essentially almost the mid point of the academic year?

Does anyone have any experience of a DC changing this late into the academic year, to possibly entirely different courses?

As an A Level teacher I would not advise this as too much content has been missed and we have already embedded basic knowledge and essay techniques. I can't comment on vocational courses as I don't teach them. I have had students who realised at this point that they really didn't enjoy the course/were not going to achieve the grade they wanted but they generally stayed until the end of summer term and then switched to a college

Not alevel (but gcse) dc1 moved at February half term of year 10 and had to have a change of some subjects (and self teach what was missed). The school dc moved to had a cut off of feb half term (so my question would be what the cut off was).
My youngest is doing alevels at present y12 and has already covered a lot of the course so I'd imagine catching up on three would be a lot of work. If it was my child id be looking to see if they could continue till the summer and get a level 2 qualification (is that possible? dc1 did btec and got awarded level 2 after first year) and then apply for alternative course to start in September as this way they'd be able to get the best mark possible. But dc dont always think of the long term gain at 16/17 so I'm not sure my dc would follow the advice!

Thank you @peanutcookie and @Hillstodieon that totally confirms what I was thinking and what I told her.
