Emanuel School scholarship - what level?

HI everyone

My DD is at a state primary, currently Y5. We are in Sutton and she will be applying to grammar schools, but I am also thinking about applying to 1 or 2 private schools to have more options. I am a single mum on a decent salary, which means I am not eligible for a bursary but won't be able to afford 100% fees (and will be too worried to do this as I have no-one to help if I lose the job), so DD will need a scholarship of at least 30% for me to consider sending her private.

DD is good at arts and is very sporty, but I don't have any real point of comparison and I don't understand what level should she be to stand a decent chance of getting a scholarship.

We are also applying to pretty much every selective school within a hour commute from Sutton and I don't want to put her through additional exams if realistically she has no real chance of getting a scholarship.

Would anyone with DC who has applied for these scholarships (ideally at Emanuel, but also other similar schools) be so kind to share with me what their DC did in terms of arts and sport before applying?

My DD has attended a local art club once a week for a couple of years, she has also played a bit of cricket last summer and is a keen gymnast and cheerleader, but that's about it... there is very little in terms of art and sport at her primary school currently.

Thanks very much!

Sport scholarships are usually 10% off school fees, max 20%. But they are given to children who excel in sports or music or whatever else they are offering scholarships for. It also has to be a sport that is one of their main sports at the school. DS got a sports scholarship at Emanuel last year and he is very strong at two of their main sports on offer. We ended up not accepting the offer, as it was not enough to sway us from another school. If you need 30% off and your daughter is exceptional academically and in sports, I would speak with the school.

Definitely speak directly to the school. We were upfront with prospective schools about our finances when we looked around.
We ended up picking a school that was upfront with us as to what they could offer. LO has a scholarship and a bursary. The scholarship is not worth very much at all. Good luck

scholarships at Emanuel are typically 10% - they say they have higher ones but child would have to be really exceptional also some of them are conditional to keeping the subject for GCSE or A Levels, or lose them (from memory it's art and drama, but check). for art scholarship, she would need an Art portfolio.
They also have honorary scholarships which gives access to the extension programs but no rebate on the fees, and sports exhibitions for £2K on the first year.
Scholarships are nowhere what they used to be, generally.
I would think the GDST schools have more funding/options to help with fees. in any case, as everyone else said, the schools would be the first port of call. theitr websites should have a lot of information.

We know kids in Emanuel with music and academic scholarships with range 15% to 50% off. A few have bursary and scholarships combination and school trips are funded. GDST music scholars had £200 off fee and free music lessons, no help for school trips funding. Apply and see but worth double checking bursary level, Emanuel and Latymer Upper is about £100,000 income level?

Sutton High used to be very generous with scholarships of up to 50%. That was a while back though. Not sure if it's still the same. As PP have said, things have tightened up considerably in recent years and provision isn't as high now for scholarships.
