black, blue, green, purple etc...and somtimes red when I can#t find anyother pen (whoops), it is silly

TheFallenMadonna · 10/06/2008 10:52

I've never had any limitations on what colour I can use. I used to use all sorts of colours. Had a packet of gel pens for marking. And smiley face stickers, just for the sixth form...

nickytwotimes · 10/06/2008 10:52

dh uses red. Howeverm he is confrontational.

fryalot · 10/06/2008 10:53

dp thinks that using a specific shade of green is essential.

(well, he doesn't really, he just thinks that if he tells me this, I'll let him spend loads of money in the stationery shop )

surely it is important to bring a childs attention to areas that are both good and bad, red is more eye catching than blue/black/green.

wessexgirl · 10/06/2008 10:56

I think children (and people in general) take more notice of red. It has that hardwired psychological connotation of warning - it makes you look at it.

Had an OU tutor who commented in mainly black, and I barely bothered to read them at all.

scaryteacher · 10/06/2008 13:00

I always used green as Admirals use it and are the only ones in the Navy allowed to. Used to wind dh up!

I also found red too harsh and all my red pens got nicked by the buggers who did cover, but they used to leave my green one alone.

fizzbuzz · 10/06/2008 13:54

um...whatever I can find......whole dpartment never seems to have a pen between us.

Pencil
Pen (somtimes)
Feltpen left behind by pupil
Coloured pencil
Have drawn the line at charcaol.....But am mainly marking pictoral rather than written work, so comments don't disappear.

Don't think we have a whole school policy on which colour to use..

My tutor said that using red pen when the child has made lots of errors makes the child's work look "as if it is bleeding". Very serious.

That was the point when I started to reconsider becoming a teacher.

Marked in purple myself, but red is better.

ScienceTeacher · 10/06/2008 18:44

I use whatever I can find

I actually quite like marking in pencil, as I can correct it if I feel I have been too harsh or not helpful enough.

bikerunski · 17/06/2008 08:09

When I taught I marked in bright pink, as red was not allowed. But fuschia (sp?, i didn't teach English!) pink is as noticeble as red.
