Likely results dates 2027

We want to book a holiday in summer 2027
and be back before DS1 gets his A level results and then DS2 gets his GCSE results.

The dates this year look a bit hard to predict, I wondered what other’s thoughts were…

The dates are months from being release so I’ll probably have to just wait but I’m interested in other opinions so I can start tentative planning!

GCSEs will be the thursday 26th before the August Bank Holiday.
A-level will be Thursday 19th.

They've never changed since I've been a kid.

Justmadesourkraut · 27/11/2025 21:38

The last 3 years A level results have been on 14th, 15th and 17th Aug. This year they are due on 13th Aug, I think.

In 2021 it was on 10th Aug. I'd guess it will be on 12th in 2027. It could go to 19th, but I think the Universities are encouraging earlier rather than later, especially as IB is so much earlier now.

I've just got far too invested in your holiday!

Justmadesourkraut · 27/11/2025 21:39

Oh, cross posted. Guess it could go either way!

alwayswantchocolate · 27/11/2025 21:54

Hmm interesting.

They’ve never been as early as the 12th for A levels or 19th for GCSEs (i checked!) so that would be really early. (2021 on 10th was a pandemic exception as there wasn’t the huge marking task, it was originally going to be 26/27th).

But 19th / 26th is very late when term starts early the following week (1st or 2nd by the looks of what’s been published) and there’s a BH too. Seems tight for sixth form and college places to be sorted after the GCSEs…

What’s IB?

From
AI…
A-level results day in 2027 is expected to be Thursday, August 12, 2027. This date is based on the established pattern of A-level results being released on the second Thursday of August.

International baccalaureate

I think it’s too early to tell. Periodically Google AQA Key Dates 2027, or any other exam board. I’m not sure when results dates are confirmed but summer 2027 timetables are usually available around May the year before.

Do you have other DC apart from these 2? If not then can you not just go in the last 2-3 weeks of July?

We're cruisers and the cruise I have my eye on gets back on 13th August... unfortunately it doesn't go earlier in July (which is a shame as it would have been cheaper!).

going by previous years @alwayswantchocolate it looks likely A level results will be released on Thursday 12th of August 2027

Pluckmeoutbluemoon · 28/11/2025 12:32

Dc said sixth-form teacher was assuming it would be Thursday 12th of August 2027 however told them that it was just best guess (based on previous years) and not to rely upon it (a student asked due to wanting to go on holiday).

Zonder · 28/11/2025 12:47

In 2004 A level results were 19 Aug and GCSE 26 Aug. So it could be the same as that but I have heard that universities prefer it to be earlier so maybe it will be a week earlier.

MrsAvocet · 28/11/2025 13:11

If I had to put money on it I would think August 12th is more likely for A levels and GCSEs 19th. It could be19th/26th but I'd imagine both Universities and schools would prefer the earlier dates.
Back in the mists of time when I was at school, most Universities didn't start until at least the beginning of October, and for Sixth Form you could more or less show up on the day and say what you wanted to do so it probably didn't matter as much when the exam results came out. But now, with many Universities starting term by mid September and post 16 arrangements being more competitive and complicated I would think it would be better for everyone if the results came out sooner to allow a bit more time for planning. Whether such things actually influence matters I don't know, but they probably should!
I your shoes, I don't think I would risk booking a holiday where you are away on 12th at this stage OP. Even if everything goes 100% to plan, your DS might want to pick up his results and celebrate with friends. I think my DC saw results day more as the end of school than they did the official end of year 13 events and they would have been sorry to have missed it. But even more importantly, if your DS drops a grade or two and has to make new plans he really does need to get onto that and start ringing places as soon as possible - I would think that would be a lot easier done from home than aboard ship.

Yes I am concerned from the point of view of needing to ring around on results day, although it does seem like more universities are offering live chat instead of phone calls these days ... but yes that is the major concern all the same in case a phone call was required because while the wifi has improved significantly with new systems on ships, it would be a cellular call if to a landline and so very expensive! When he collected his GCSEs he just wanted to get out of there and come home, not because they were bad but he's a bit socially awkward, so I can't imagine he will be fussed about not being there in person.

I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed for 19th/26th though. It's never been on the 12th and I've checked back over 20 years but it has been the 19th once (I need something to do clearly!) and I assume the 12th is just a bridge too far in terms of marking and admin constraints - I am an examiner for something unrelated and I'm aware that there are huge recruitment problems for examiners and more steps in marking and moderating.

But who knows, it is all speculation! I'm obviously going to have to wait for a decision to be published. I have a plan B holiday in mind (also a cruise!) it's just not as good...

The other consideration is how does your school distribute results? I've seen a lot of people on here say that their school uses email as the preferred method and nobody really goes in to collect them in person. If that's the case, it probably doesn't matter where you are. However, at my DC's school the preferred option was to collect in person, or if you couldn't get in then you could phone, email wasn't an option. However, in person collection opened at 8am if I recall rightly, but you couldn't phone until 2 or 3 hours later. In that case, not being personally present could be potentially quite disadvantageous. I'd check carefully what the arrangements are at your school as that might have a significant impact on how important it is for you to be at home.
