Wilson's school Croydon appeals

Does anyone know anything about appeals at this school? My son sat the test earlier this week and had a panic attack (first time in a formal exam setting and it just totally freaked him out) and didn't finish the test.
He also sat the exam for St Olave's grammar today but being his second time he didn't panic and came out feeling pretty confident. Assuming he doesn't get an offer at Wilsons if he DID get offered St Olave's, considering that's usually harder to get into, could we appeal on the basis that he IS capable, but was just unwell? Obviously he may well get neither but we strongly prefer Wilson's so would love him to go there if he could

I would think it’s highly unlikely, and you’d need solid medical evidence. So sorry this happened to your boy, but you can imagine many folks might state that this happened. Were staff aware at the time, as in, did he need to be taken out (that might make a difference!).

Also, did you contact Wilson’s immediately?

Finally, it’s not just about being capable - they offer places on ranked score, meaning that he wouldn’t have a rank (unless it’s a two stage test and this is just about allowing him to sit the second stage). Many children meet the standard but won’t be offered a place, as there are children with higher marks that fill all the available places.

Hmm no on both of those questions. Yes I think it's unlikely that we'd be allowed on that basis too really. What a shame. He was really upset with himself. Especially as his twin came out feeling confident.

I think many children sit in the exam having panic attacks/visibly crying by the sounds of - sadly the tests and standard are not set up with the kids’ mental health at the forefront. So I don’t think you’ll get very far, clearly the schools want super resilient kids who show no sign of weakness.

Yes I'm sure you're right. It's such a shame. I actually think if he'd sat that one AFTER the one he'd done today so really knew what to expect we'd have potentially been successful but who knows? Massive exam halls are such a strange environment for them at the age of 10.
