SW/Central London 11+ tutor recommendations

I’m looking for a tutor for the 11+ in central/SW London. Ideally, I would like someone who can come to my home for small group, in-person tutoring for my son and a couple of his friends.

I’m very new to this so would also appreciate any advice people have on in-person vs online, individual vs small group, how many hours per week we should be considering, and what is a reasonable hourly rate.

Our son has just started year 4 in a state primary school.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, from my experience of doing the exam and also tutoring for it I would suggest 2 hours per week as a good starting rate for most children. Even though your son is in year 4 time will go quite fast and my most successful students have been the ones who did at least 2 hours per week. In-person is also much better for most children especially because they are so young I find that they don't engage or concentrate very well online. It does provide a cheaper option though. London rates can be quite high but I think you should be able to find a good DBS-certified tutor for £30/hour in-person small group teaching, or closer to £45/hour 1:1 in-person. I usually do individual because it takes away the fear of making a mistake for the child and lets me focus on their weaknesses for a full hour, but a group can be great for motivation, healthy competition and a lower rate without decreasing quality that much (definitely try to keep the group small though!)

Hope this helps!

That’s very helpful, thanks. I don’t suppose you are able to recommend any London tutors?
