@Leeloo13 just be mindful the open evening/ day bookings for CSG gets booked up almost immediately after being released so keep an eye on the website.

Oh, thank you, I didn't know ..

I agree. I would lean towards CSG as it sounds more local than StM and music is very strong. They have a 6th form orchestral music programme which you can audition for. 15 spaces are given and those people get a space regardless of distance. There's also a very healthy number of boys there that take humanities. LAET is also very academic and sponsored by Highgate, lots of Highgate teachers teach there and their music is strong too.

I checked, and unfortunately for the Orchestral programme, electric guitar is not on the list🙁

Ah yh it needs to be a classical instrument but I think he would love CSG if he's into music. I personally don't like the school much so there's no prejudice here but it sounds like he would love it there. The music dept is absolutely thriving, there's orchestras, bands etc and all at a very high and active level which is very unusual in the state sector at 6th form.

We've been to an open day to LaSwap and he didn't like...
Woodhouse seems a bit far away; I'll have a look at Mary Magdalene

He is not sure yet,what he wants but..he says maybe English, History, French and Music..he is playing guitar,and doing GCSE Music.... although he is good in Maths and science he says he is not interested in taking any at A levels

At Harris Westminster music A level is taught at Westminster in the same classes as the Westminster pupils. (Several A levels are taught this way, the list is on their website.) There is a thriving extra curricular scene at Harris and Harris pupils can also join the music groups at Westminster School. From the cohort that just sat A levels at Harris, one student is going on to the Royal College of Music and one is going to Oxbridge to study music.

History of Art A level is also offered at Harris Westminster, which was mentioned as a subject upthread.

Harris Westminster selects on ability and then gives priority to those on free school meals so that currently approx 50% of the cohort fall into this category. The rest come from all over, including some from Westminster School.

That's amazing! Op you've got some incredible options. I'd confidently say that CSG 6th form is at least 80% middle class kids, quite a few join from privates. It's a very very middle class 6th form experience. Incredibly driven kids, but the demographic is a bubble, it's worth bearing in mind.

No dropping the 4th A level at HW - can sometimes be replaced by an EPQ but it’s essentially compulsory. A very schooly school, w dress code and long days.

Yes that's what I meant when I said it's similar to LAET and Brampton Manor. It's full full days.

CSG has excellent English w stellar Oxbridge results (due to some deeply dubious practices that seem to me very much like cheating - in depth interview debriefs that are specifically forbidden by the universities - but what they do clearly works!)

History and French are fine

i dont hear great things about the music teaching tho the music performances and groups etc are great.

You don't need excellent teaching when you have excellent self motivated well off students (only half joking)

I’m sure (know) there is a lot of parental value added at CSG.

100%. They are not a difficult cohort to teach.

Yh it's unusual to start with 3 A Levels at these schools. APS also makes you take 4 A Levels. Even at the very selective schools, they usually end up dropping the 4th at the end of Y12.

What is APS?

@Leeloo13

LAET= London Academy Of Excellence Tottenham
APS= Alexandra Park School

And a lot of kids with those grades are turned away. Honestly I think Harris is more accessible because their admissions is so much more transparent. It's difficult to figure out what gets you a place at CSG. It is, and has always been filled with very middle class kids though. It's chalk and cheese to Harris in terms of demographic and type of child. I also feel Harris is much more STEM focused. CSG is brilliant for the Arts and is one of very few state schools offering history of art.

Harris also has History of Art, and after the open evening my son said he is considering it...

Yup that was established in the thread earlier. It's a brilliant choice, hope your son goes for it and is successful!
