@36and3 well done to your DD wow a 9.
DD gets all her mock results tomorrow at the same time on a piece of paper as if it was gcse results day. She did very little revision as wanted to test her knowledge! 6th form still not sure about, was funny at her schools open evening as a couple of teachers where trying to talk her into going there.
Good luck to all those still doing mocks.

Cocoaone · 25/11/2025 06:45

What a boost to get a 9 @36and3

DD has half her mocks next week and then the rest in Jan or Feb. She is revising, but probably not as much as she could….

we’ve put her applications in for sixth form. First choice is grammar with tougher entry requirements, second choice a college offering A levels, third choice a local high school which offers A levels & BTECs and fourth choice a local high school which offers the the IB career programme (only needs 5 passes at GCSE for that one)

She’s still not sure what she wants to do when she’s older, so has picked what interests her - criminology, sociology and maths, and applied
science BTEC in the back-up choices. Probably an odd mix, but she doesn’t want to go into anything specific like medicine, law or economics etc, so hopefully won’t hinder her

Well done to @36and3 DD . Just to add the balance DS2 only has one grade for one history paper back so far which was a 2 … he told me it was awful when he got in the car afterwards so I wasn’t hugely surprised… it would help if he did more than a smattering of revision . He keeps telling me he will revise for the real things … I’ve suggested he start soon - little and often- it’s the classic leading horses to water and not being able to make them drink though

eurotravel · 25/11/2025 19:07

I’m with you @waitingquietly.In despair at lack of meaningful work and will result in mock grades that will exclude her from some colleges

NotDarkGothicMama · 25/11/2025 19:53

DS doesn't get his results until 18th December, so he's still in the happy land of telling me he doesn't need to revise Hmm I'm half hoping for terrible grades to give him a wake-up call in time for the real exams, but that would jeopardise his hopes of getting into his preferred sixth form.

Well done your DD @36and3!

36and3 · 25/11/2025 20:40

Thanks it’s only one grade but yes a boost. But then the next result came in and it’s a 6 for RE - totally fine! But she’s now in a mood. This is quite literally a rollercoaster. I wish we got the results on one bit of a paper too rather than the anticipation over several days.

GucciGin · 26/11/2025 15:41

My DS gets his results on the last day off term. So its either going to make or break his Christmas.
He keeps saying his Mocks went well. But time will tell.

Tebheag · 27/11/2025 05:41

DD got her results and is very happy 9 maths 9 geography 9 Electronics and 9 in Chemistry got 8s in both Englishs was a lovely surprise as was hoping for a 7. RE 8, physics 8, Biology 8. Almost a shame it was not the real thing!
Sorry for all the grades just very proud and can't share it elsewhere.
Hoping mocks are going OK ok for everyone else.

That’s very good! I’ve never heard of electronics as a GCSE!

Tebheag · 27/11/2025 07:56

@36and3 Electronics is under a Welsh exam board their school has a Maths teacher who enjoys the subject so has taught it at Gcse level for a few years.

NotDarkGothicMama · 27/11/2025 08:29

That's a fantastic set of results, well done your DD!

ECT22 · 27/11/2025 21:27

I’m super happy for and proud of my DD who has got a 4 in her Maths mock, when she struggles with it so much. Such a confidence boost. A 4 is not a reason to celebrate for many, I realise. But if you know, you know ❤️

NotDarkGothicMama · 27/11/2025 22:05

A 4's a pass and means she wouldn't have to take it again next year. Congratulations to her and you!

eurotravel · 27/11/2025 23:16

@ECT22thats excellent as a maths pass keeps so many doors open and no retakes. Never need to look at maths again if don’t want to post real exam

Tebheag · 28/11/2025 05:02

@ECT22 well done to your daughter. I recall the feeling of joy for that though my sons was English!

waitingquietly · 28/11/2025 09:40

@ECT22 well done to your DD … currently waiting to find out if DS2 managed to secure a 4 in his maths mock too … all a bit bizarre for me as DS1 last year was between an 8/9 (… when my sons work as a team they are absolutely storming … )

MakeTeaNotWar · 28/11/2025 12:19

I’ve just had DD mock results back - I think it’s a decent result but I’m not really sure (didn’t go to school in the UK)

11 GCSEs
2 x 8
5 x 7
4 x 6

Ursulla42 · 28/11/2025 12:30

@ECT22a 4 would do us. Congratulations! Getting ours on Monday and everything is crossed.

Yep, those are good grades! Were the 7s/8s in things she wants to do for A level?

Her 8s were German and Sociology. She’s applied for English Lit, History & Film Study A Levels - she got 6 in history, 7 in English. I hope she’s pleased, she’s worked hard

waitingquietly · 28/11/2025 15:23

Anything 7 and above is at least an A , 6 a B and 5/4 are Cs … I find it easier to think about it in old grades - know too many kids who are upset as no 9s when in reality their grades are great

Littletreefrog · 28/11/2025 19:51

DS isn't getting his results back until the day they break up for Christmas. He promised he was revising and I told him these results will determine whether I keep believing him and leave him to manage alone or go bat shit crazy revision Mam on him so I hope for his sake he does well.

36and3 · 28/11/2025 19:52

DD’s results are in too: one 9 (alevel choice) three 8s (also alevel choices) then two 7s, three 6s and a 4 in chemistry.

waitingquietly · 28/11/2025 20:11

DS2 came home with a football injury … and a 4 in physics - on about 20 minutes revision ! What could the child achieve if he does some work ?!

Ifonlyoneday · 28/11/2025 22:37

It was the last day of mocks here. So glad they’re over and it wasn’t even me sitting them. Think they’ve gone ok. DTs get their results in 2 weeks time in one of those mini mock ceremonies.
there were a few topics they didn’t seem to have been taught in physics to which I said better to know that now and close that gap before the next time.
thankfully we have a few months before the second set of mocks by when I hope they’ve completed their syllabus.
