Hi 👋
congratulations to all those who children received their results today !

im just wondering as I have been watching Munster about the sats and gcse scores esofaifsllt some of the more stressful posts surrounding how sats predict their GCSE results.

anyone have any children who were not high achievers in their year 6 sats but actually went on to do well at GCSE.

any tips for a mum about to enter this journey :) x

None of this year's GCSE cohort did SATs, as they left primary school and started secondary in 2020.

DD did very well in SATS and got 115 out of 120 which secured her a place at a top grammar school.

She coasted pretty much the entire way through and came out with fairly average GCSEs (A*AAAABBBCC).

I know of many kids who didn’t do so well at SATS level who then worked really hard and excelled at GCSE. DD’s problem was that she was too used to coasting on natural ability when she was younger and therefore had next to no study skills to rely on when content became harder. In my opinion the kids who weren’t so academic when they were younger developed better study skills and were more motivated

One of my DC got around 100 in their reading sats. Was put in bottom set for English at the start of secondary school. Now about to apply to Cambridge to study English. Maths sats score was better by a few points. Now storming Maths A-level. I think undiagnosed ND, and being late summer born played a part.

I remember DD did well in her Sats as her predicted grades were all 7 plus but she actually got all 9’s (with a lot of hard work)

I was going to point this out.

@DoggyDisasteryour DD’s results might be average for a top grammar but I hope you and she both know they are far above average nationally!

Amongst her peers she’s pretty average though - it’s all relative and depends on what you expect from life

Late to this thread but Ds was "on track" for a 4/5 in English and a 5/6 in maths based on year 6 SATs. He actually got an 8 in English lang and a 9 in maths. Overall got mostly 9s and some 8s. He just excelled in secondary, had amazing teachers, brilliant school ethos about doing the best that you can, pushing a positive attitude to learning. They also heavily involve parents helping them to understand how to help your child all the way through including revision for GCSE and what that actually looks like. We knew that when we chose it.

DD didn’t do SATS, but we were told she wouldn’t pass any and was looking at 3/4s in GCSEs. She just got 7,6,6,6,5,4,4,4 so we are very proud.

Mafaldaweasley · 27/08/2025 22:55

Dd did not do SATS but had some 'estimated' SATS from primary in low hundreds which frustratingly set her flight path as all 5s - leading to some mediocre sets in year 9! She has just got her GCSE results and got 999888775 - thankfully teachers ignored these predictions.
