Catholic Secondary schools SW London - Richard Reynolds

I’m currently researching Catholic secondary schools in SW London for my DS for Year 7 entry next year. We were previously keen on St Richard Reynolds in Twickenham but notice that their A Level results were a lot lower than previous years. Does anybody have children at the school and know why?

@ there is a lot of choice in the area for A levels - Esher College, Tiffin - mixed at 6th form, Waldegrave. It's hard for schools to keep pupils who may have been at a school for many years (since primary) and want a change. SRRCC also has a narrower list of A levels available compared to other more established schools (the school is 10 or 11 years old).
Don't base your choice of secondary on A level results when your own dc will also have so much choice at 16.

Thank you and good point re sixth form. Obviously some years can be better than others but it’s quite a steep drop.

2020-2022 were covid inflated years for all 6th forms. Marking returned to 2019 levels in 2023. It was difficult for all small 6th forms to adjust their teaching / predictions after 2 years of inflated grades.

See the drop LEH had in 2023 if you want to see a school with a post covid drop that has now bounced back.

I would focus more on the Catholic ethos of SRRCC compared to other Catholic schools in the area.

catholic schools tend to be a bit smaller and lots move to other 6th forms for Alevels imo.

Are you in the catchment for St Paul's Sunbury? My son is thriving there. This year A level results for school were: 85 perc got A-C. Three kids got accepted at Oxbridge this year and mkre to Russel group unis

Are you near St Marks in Hounslow?

You can apply to the London Oratory as they accept from all over London.

Again, as others have said, just focus on GCSE results, extra curriculum and if you actually like the school.

If the brightest leave for elsewhere then it's hardly a surprise that the pupils who are left don't score top A levels.
